But I give mad props to OU because their Stadium And Fans are Amazing, and they have won 7 national titles so you can't hate on them too much.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
I became a fan around 1974 or so...I loved those old uniforms with the yellow pants.
I remember seeing the old bumper stickers on cars all over town, "I am for Sonny" or I am for Billy". Getting those free Redskins drinking glasses at Shell or was it Sunoco (?) gas station if you pumped 8 gallons or more. I still have a lot of them. 7-11 had those plastic player collectors cups. Even though the skins were not very good then, it was easy to become a fan. Sonny, Billy, a young Joe Thiesman returning punts, Larry Brown, Charlie Haraway, Roy Jefferson, Charlie Taylor, Jerry Smith, Chris Hanburger, Ron Mcdole, Diron Talbert, Coy Bacon, A young Dave Butz, Pat Fischer, MIke Bass, Ken Houston, Speedy Duncan... It was rewarding as a fan to suffer through those early losing years to later have George Allen take us to SB 7 (loss) and then the Gibbs/Bethard dynasty. I now relaize that for you fans that are too young to watch the Gibbs 92 SB win live, have suffered through 17 years of average to below average football. That is a long time. |

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
Many ways to become a fan, but id say 3 factors make it happen.
1. They're your hometown team, i grew up in newport news. Skins country nuff said. 2. Popular teams at the time. My 3 Bros were all viking fans, and they all grew up in the 70's. While i grew up in the mid 80's early 90 so have quite few local friends who were Cowboy and 49er fans. 3. You follow your Dads team. My dad was a casual fan, pretty much rooting for whoever is good atm. Maybe that explains the Viking fans in the house when i was little lol. |

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
My Dad worked in DC. Was a casual fan. I fell in love with Gary Clark- not afraid to go across the middle and mix it up for a little guy. Didn't hurt that the Skins were awesome back then. Boy its been awhile...

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
I never thought of it as a choice. After doing his part to defeat fascism, my grandfather settled in the DC area in the 1950's, adopted the Redskins as his team, gave birth to a Redskins crazy son who eventually gave birth to me. Where is the choice in that? To like another team would be basically like wearing a swastika while dancing on my grandfather's grave. I'm not gonna do that.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
Is this a thread to make us all ask ourselves why we are STILL Redskins fans?? Believe me, it has crossed my mind many times. My mother-in-law asks me every Sunday night. (damn I hate that!) And, she is a Giants fan. BTW, would that be grounds for divorce- a Giants fan in-law???

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
I arrived to this country (and settled in the DC area) in 1990 and I learned about professional football by watching the Redskins, I have been a fan since then. I was lucky to witness the great 1991 season, capped off with team winning SB XXVI. Unfortunately, I did not get to experience RFK, and have only attended games at FedEx. The team has had many ups and downs, but I continue to be a fan regardless.
