Re: Matt Millen is OUT as Lions GM and President
the move had to be made, eventually, i suppose. i can't help but wonder if it will make a difference though. in the nearly 20 years that i’ve been following nfl football, this organization has done nothing of note besides draft a hall of fame running back and ride him to ZERO playoff victories.
millen did nothing to help this organization in his time at the helm. but i, for one, do not place its futility on his shoulders. much less can i consider his termination (or resignation) as an improvement. the common link throughout the years is the ownership. i don’t know what exactly they’ve been doing wrong for, oh, the last 50 years. but until a change happens at the head, the feet will probably keep tripping over each other.

Re: Matt Millen is OUT as Lions GM and President
Well all I can say is I guess there will be one more WR on next yrs draft for all the other teams. lol.
I thought after last yr the team would be going somewhere this yr. All they had to do was find a way to build their defense up. Didn't they drop their offensive coordinator who helped them put up all the yrds? Now look at them. They look like a car stuck in the mud.....just spinning their wheels. I'm betting whole sale changes will be a coming next yr......again. On a side note how soon until the Raiders bail on their coach? I'm supprised the owner has not contacted the "Crimson Chin." |

Re: Matt Millen is OUT as Lions GM and President
i guess the son's opinion mattered more then he thought. Millen is a fine analyst, and seems like a nice guy. but not so good in running a franchise. this is about 2 years late and welcome back B.S.B. hope school is going good

Re: Matt Millen is OUT as Lions GM and President
I liked the parting shot Millen's wife took at the Lions- when being interviewed by Chris Mortensen, she said she told Matt after the firing- "You're out of football prison now..." She's so right too. 31-84 since taking over. How is it even possible to be so awful?

Look when we get to the playoffs and the Redskins are watching from home, if Dallas struggles, then we can bash that about. So lets not forget that there is a game THIS Sunday. And since you insist on revisiting history, let me remind you that the Dallas Cowboys have won 15 of the last 20 regular season games against the Redskins. So there is some history for you. |

Re: Matt Millen is OUT as Lions GM and President
Can't blame Marinelli for the stupidity of the FO these past several seasons, but I don't think he will be back next season. I thought Billick brought up some good points doing the color for the Lions-49ers game, about how dumb it was for the Lions to use 3 #1 draft picks for WR when they had glaring needs at O line and virtually any position on defense. I live in Allen Park, MI where the Lions practice facility and offices are and when we heard on the radio at work we gave each other high fives. Nothing against Millen. He is a nice guy, was a solid pro player, and was a pretty good analyst, but he had no business running a franchise. In reality, the buck stops squarely at the Fords' feet. Always have done thing half assed on the cheap with regards to hiring a decent coach/FO. Never went after the best available people. I mean come on, it got so bad even Barry Saunders decided to quit, when he had the all time rushing title all his for the taking. They stayed with Harrington far too long, didn't really draft a decent replacement, and now Kitna is showing why he has been all over the NFL. I don't look for much improvement with the Lions even with a new Pres/Gm. Unlike MR. Snyder, I am not sure the Fords are really that committed to building a winner. |

Comes down to who the owners are GM. The Fords took a decent NFL franchise and made them the new Tampa Bay Buccanears circa 1976, except it has lasted what over 3 decades? |

You made the playoffs in '06 and Romo's slippery fingers cost you. You made it last year as the #1 seed and wet the bed at home. So that's two years in a row you've made it and "struggled." Does it have to be three in a row for us to bash? The Skins on the other hand have made it 2 of the last 3 years and managed to win a game too. Not spectacular by any means, but better than Dallas. So say what you will about how great you've been in the regular season. Back to the Millen bashing...
