Re: ARE: Punt Returns
We need someone to take the ball North and South, all this dancing back there reminds me of Neon when he sucked returning punts for us. I say give Rock a try (and if not him then Thrash). At least Rock will take the ball upfield. Intriguing thought about Tryon, with his speed he could be interesting, but has he ever done it before?

Re: ARE: Punt Returns
I vote for Devin Hester. If not him, then whoever is our quickest guy other than Santana Moss (Tryon?).

Re: ARE: Punt Returns
NOW? I was saying this all last year. Honestly, is there anyone WORSE in the NFL at returning punts? I usually stand behind our guys but this is just wrong and has been going on for way to long. I like him as a receiver but damn....come on. I never have understood why they would rather have him back there than Thrash. I just don't get it. Are they thinking ONE day he might break one? In the mean time it's pathetic. This has bothered me for quite awhile. Maybe after Zorn sees it awhile he'll step in and change it. I'always thought Gibbs would but it never happened.

Re: ARE: Punt Returns
i say put a rook, or someone with speed..maybe tryon? because are is too valuable as our reciever to risk him hurt while the rookis develop

Re: ARE: Punt Returns
He's pretty bad back there. He spins around like a drunk on a unicycle. I'm ready to see if Thomas or Rock can do better back there.

Re: ARE: Punt Returns
Yeah, his days as an elite punt returner are clearly behind him.

Re: ARE: Punt Returns
Why not Moss? I don't care as long as the guy just runs forward more than sideways.

Re: ARE: Punt Returns
I almost started the same thread (glad I thought to look further down the list beforehand). If ARE is returning punts again next weekend I'll be scratching me head... AND THEN FUCKING GOING BALLISTIC AGAIN. My biggest complaint is that he won't run north-south even when there are a few yards to gain before he hits a wall. Really, any of the suggested replacements above would be an improvement but I want to see Betts return punts. Probably not the best idea because he's our immediate backup RB but Betts runs north-south as well as Rock but w/ more speed and he's better after contact. Maybe it's too risky though.

Re: ARE: Punt Returns
The one thing ARE had going for him on punts was the fact that he caught and held onto the ball. Gaining yards on Punt Returns has never been his strong suit while playing for the maroon and black. It might be a little different but didn't Mitchell return punts? I mean hell ,we have a poor mans Brian Mitchell in Rock so lets see what he can do.
Face it ARE, you're a reciever now, and a good one at that, stick to your craft.

Re: ARE: Punt Returns
Yeah, this should not be a knee-jerk reaction to his fumble. He has sucked at returning punts since he came over in 06. New blood!

Re: ARE: Punt Returns
The fumble I'll forgive. El has a good history of hanging onto the ball. But his returns have been middle to bottom of the pack for a while. Combine that with his increased roll as a receiver and I think it's clear we need to re-staff the punt return job.
Thrash has always been solid, but I'd try a few more of he young guys first. Until you do, you won't know if you have a Devin Hester.

Re: ARE: Punt Returns
estion is whether it is our bnlocking or not. I am not savy enough to say for sure. It does seems like he dances a lot and usues a lot of motion to not do too much. I think our punting/punt returning game is as suspect as our kickoff/kick returning is good.
