It's about being right, not about feeling slighted.

TC is not the best backup QB in the NFL; it's a straight-up disagreement with Don Banks. That's all it is.

Re: Todd Collins: Best Backup QB in the NFL?

im with you schneed..collins wins games that were a TOTAL team effort, if JC was in there i have no doubts he could have rallied the troops as well.
I think collins did a great job AFTER gibbs gave up the reins to saunders and let him call the offense...but if i was in the same offense for 11 years id hope to have a damn good knowledge of it too..
call me a pessimist. but i think tc is not that great in a new system..hes been a career backup for a reason

It's just his opinion against ours.

Not sure how anyone can be proven right in this case.

Yeah I'm with ya, I don't think anybody's trying to prove their case. You can probably show stats to support one's opinion on the matter, but in the end it's just a debate on opinions.

I was just responding to your post saying "you just can't win." It's not about winning with me as a writer, at least in my case. I'm not looking for an opinion to prop up the 'Skins. I'm just looking for good opinions, and I don't agree with Banks here.

But it's splitting hairs really, because I do like TC a lot and do think we have one of the better backups in the league. I just can't get too carried away with five starts where the line finally jelled and the WRs finally got healthy. In the minds of the national media (at least in the mind of Banks), Collins went from an unknown assumed to be a bum in 2006 to the best backup in the league after 2007. Both assessments are on the extreme end of reality, IMO.

Hey it could be worse, we could have David Carr, Alex Smith, or Chris Redman as our backups. LOL.

Well one thing we can agree on Matty is the receivers arent up in arms... Of course that is because we are still in need of a tall receiver like Joe Horn (see other thread)...if our short receivers are up in arms we just cant see them

I think he knows a inside tip that Brennan will start the season as our starter.

In all seriousness i think that Brady Quinn is better then Collins.

Based on what exactly? A hunch? Because Quinn as you know hasn't even smelled the field yet in the regular season.

I think there are a lot of good backups in the NFL, but I don't think Kerry Collins is one of them. He might be better than Young right now though, he was last year.

But I do agree with you that if Baltimore wanted a short term fix at QB (which is what they did with McNair), they could have gone out and got a Brunell, or a Kerry Collins, or a Griese, or a Leftwich, or a Culpepper, or a Sage Rosenfels, and they would be the overwhelming favorites in the AFC North. Not all of those guys are particularly great passers, but they are all known quantities who could win on a team with that kind of defense.

I share WaldSkins opinion, but I don't know if I have a particularly great defense for that position. I would argue that being better than Todd Collins is exactly what I would expect from any 1st round pick in his 2nd year, and Brady Quinn is probably a special case in that he was the most complete prospect coming out of college in recent memory.

That, and I think a lot of people (Don Banks included) are tricking themselves into thinking that seeing that 7 good halves of football plus a shaky playoff game means that Todd Collins is a top of the line quarterback. He probably isn't, and he's on film now. We simply don't have any sort of significant sample on Todd Collins other then enough to say that the people (like me) who thought he didn't belong in the NFL were probably wrong.

Banks is making a big guess on Collins' future to rank him No. 1. I really hope we don't have to find out whether last year was for real or not.
