re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)

I hate to say this, because I really like him, but Philip Daniels could be the Skins MVP this year. I already liked our D-line, but with the addition of J. Taylor the pass rush could be downright scary! I think a 2nd rounder is a bit high, but let's face it the Dolphins had all the leverage here. Carter and Taylor coming off the ends just made the back 7 that much tougher!!

HAIL!!

Terrible that Daniels went down, but in one day this really improves our D. I give props to Danny & Vinny for acting w/lightening speed on this after losing 2 DEs in 1 day.

Also, we never know if this deal was in the works before Daniels was hurt, but if Daniels' injury was truly the impetus, then give the front office props for letting Blace stick w/his vets.

JT & AC; they can't both wear 99, but that's the only down side. If they can get 15-20 sacks between them, which they're capable of, our D will be much improved.
Good point about not knowing if we made a offer prior to this and had to up the ante. There's still plenty of good numbers up for grabs.

JT is only going to play one more year.

He has no alligence to the Skins and has even told everyone he just wants to play one more year before going into Hollywood. I'm fine with that. DE was one of weak spots on our defense. Taylor should shore it up for the time being...don't get too attached to him though because he's a one and done.

Let me quote a modern day masterpiece movie (sarcasm) Robo-Cop
"I like it"

Taylor is a stand up guy in and out of the locker room. He is a former defensive Mvp or Runner-up. And we are desperate for a productive player in the DE position.

This is a win-win!
Sure if we would of got him for flea market price that would of been even better but Target Budget is not bad.

This was said by Taylor when the dolphins were slapping him in the face with there cavalier attitude of not needing him and so forth...
The Tuna is too good to start his project of a team with a good to above average player...would look better when the Dolphins rise from the door mats of the AFC and become something.

If you went to work and your boss was casually hinting that he did not need you to do what went on there, wouldn't you send them to hell with gasoline draws on...

Taylor just showed emotions...arrest him! If we give him the loyalty that the Great Redskin fan base can and will offer, he will rise to the occasion.
I give him 2-3 years here!

While I think it was probaboly a bit too expensive, we really had no choice but to pull the trigger on this. Our defense is better than it was at the start of the day. I hate to see Daniels go down, cause I really like him, but Taylor is more talented. I just hope the leadership of Daniels isn't missed too much, cause he was a great leader on the D.

2nd is pretty high... but i don't mind the d-line help whatsoever. Especially with the Daniels injury news earlier today. He should be still fairly productive and I think that only helps this season. D-Line isn't really a position where he'll have to re-learn a bunch of things.

John Clayton just said that he'd heard from Taylor & that he's going to play at least 2 more years. Guess there's really no way to force him to play another year, but if we're close he might stay longer IMO.

Yeah, I like Daniels too & think he' a solid guy & player, but he's no JT. We now have one of the top 5 DE pass rush combos in the nfl.

I would have preferred to see us give up a third rounder instead, but I guess I am fine with this How good a move this turns out to be will be up to Taylor, and how seriously he takes his commitment to the team.

re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)

Looked back at Taylor's run metrics (run defense) from the last three years: they're consistently bad.

I guess the good thing is that they don't look any different from Daniels' production last year.

But those sacks, oh boy can he rack up those sack totals. He's an 8 sack guy in a down year.

JT will make our defense and particularly our secondary better immediately. My concern is what this does to our Cap Space. No money left. Do we renegotiate his salary?

re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)

Love this move. I was hoping the skins would have gone DE with their first rounder this year. I'll take JT over any of the DEs that were available where our original first round pick was this year in a heartbeat. Our pass rush just got worlds better than it was. JT and AC could really make for a great duo coming off the ends. Very excited to see him in action. Welcome to the Skins, Jason!

Wow. This happened really fast. On nfl.com, Cerrato says he will play more than one year. We're definitely going to have an amazing pass rush this year

Does this put more burden on our quality-depth thin LB corps not having a true strongside DE? Maybe Demetric Evans will play on first down and in short yardage situations.
