I was impressed with Mason last year. He really had some decent runs in the limited action that I saw of him.

Re: Vinny Cerrato Says Marcus Mason Will Have A Great Preseason

I'll start off by saying I like all our RB's, but.....Portis is our man. Unless he gets injured he's #1. Both Betts and Rock have their issues. I know I'll get slammed for this but Betts is known for Ummmm.....dropping the ball at the most in opportune time. I'm not saying he can't carry a team but expect atleast one fumble when you least need him to.

Rock is no better. He has the tendency to fumble at the worst time also. Which is why both were relegated to kick returner. Either one delt in a trade for something we need would not bother me. Now you will ask am I a Marcus fan....yes. I like the kid and his speed. He is someone we could develope to take over for Portis in a few yrs. He's young, he's shifty, he's fast, because he is young he has the time to be developed. Unlike the other two who will always remain second fiddle to Portis and then be just as old as Portis when he decides to retire or when team decides he's slowing down and can't get the job done.

Who knows what the team has in store. but I would not be trading Mason for something in return when you have two other RB's who would get better trade value due to being vets. Don't need to be developed. Can make a mediochre (sp) team better and even be a better back up to what they may already have if not the starter which I'm sure they would rather be but for Portis.

Ok......slam me.

Right, as I said that I DON'T think Redskins will cut him.. However, speaking of the place of #3 RB, I think Mason can take that spot..

So... you think we'll keep 4 RB's on the active roster?? That's not going to happen.

My guess would be that the same thing that happened last yr will happen this yr. He will be put on the practice squad. I just hope no one observes him and he doesn't get picked up by another team. I'm not sure what Cerrato was thinking when he said what he must have said but I would rather see Rock traded vs Mason. We have several people on the team who technically can return balls. It seemed that this yr they went over board on the who can do their job and return kicks. It kinda makes Rock expendable. Unless none of the others are good at the job. Like Randel El. Although he can I would not put my heart and soul in his returns. He's more East/West then North/South.

Well last year Portis but the ball on the ground 6 times lost 5 of those and one cost us the game.

Re: Vinny Cerrato Says Marcus Mason Will Have A Great Preseason

I would guess thats six to many times. lol. I didn't look but I wonder if it was once a game or did he just have a few really bad games.

I guess if our team is winning I could care less if he drops the ball once a game but if by dropping the ball causes us to lose the game by allowing the other team to create points then Houston we have a problem. I'm not trying to paint Betts or Rock as bing horrible RB and they need to go. No. I'm simply stating that if we had to let one go to make room for a player in another position of need then I would let Rock or Betts go first. More then likely Rock. We picked up a lot of talent in the offseason that could fill the return role. Even Mason could fill the role.

Re: Vinny Cerrato Says Marcus Mason Will Have A Great Preseason

I really liked Mason in the preseason last year. He ended up making the 53 man roster, but he got cut and put on the practice squad before week 1 (I think it was before week 1). He definitely has a chance to make it this year, but it is going to be tough with Cartwrights special teams ability.

I thought one of the new WRs (Thomas and Kelly) has experience returning kicks. Right?

So, I would not be the least bit surprised if Rock is cut and Mason takes his spot.

u mean like when he fumbled and cost us a game against the chiefs 2 yrs ago?

If Pro-Bowler and late March/early April legend Jerome Mathis can't beat Rock out, I don't see Mason doing it either.

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

Good point but this leads to some speculation.
Vinny picked up a kick return specialist thug....when we just signed Rock.
Now Vinny is saying Marcus Mason should be watched....when that spot is Rock's too....

I dont think it is a stretch to believe writing may be on the wall for Rock.

Why did we release Jerome Mathis....first of all, hes got character issues....but primarily because we drafted guys with KR potential....again...Rocks job.

I like Rock too....but, I see 2 backup RB's that are ok and have no real upside above their current levels.....Mason has upside....

Kinda like the 3 QB spots....a veteran starter, a verteran backup....and a developmental young 3rd stringer. I can see the possibility of them trying to go this path for RB's too.

In reality....I just think Vinny is trying to give Rock a kick in his pants....perhaps because Rock thought he was so great when he wanted to hit free agency this year.

In any case...I would be fine if Mason made it instead of Rock assuming we had a solid KR guy....of course I'd prefer Mason on the squad with 4 RBs.

I don't think they are going to cut Rock... this year. As much as I love Rock (he's one of my favorite Skins), I believe that his time is here is coming to a close. Mason has potential to be just as good as Rock.

Devin Thomas is a good return guy, but I thought it was primarily punts, not kickoffs.
