Re: Should posts in the parking lot count towards total post counts?
I guess on some reflection I do think post counts mean something on a board like this. They help new members know that this is an established board and probably wont tolerate a bunch of crap. I think it can help the new members understand that there are people here who care about the content on this board and not a bunch of short timers just spouting off.

When you guys go to other message boards, do you pay attention to the post counts?

On the other hand, sometimes I think the more posts you have just means you're more jaded. In all honestly, I look at the age of a poster first. I know, I know... that's stupid, but I just can't help it. |

Since joining and looking at Redskin.com frequently. I joined that and might have 5 posts if that. And I no more paid any attention to that then the man on the moon.......but I've only looked and posted a handful of times on extreme, just don't have the time in the day to sit in front of the computer for hours on end. So at the end of the day the post count just doesn't mean much of anything to myself. Whats in the post is a different story.

I think only posts with more than 500 words and a Flesch-Kincaid score of under 30 should count. Matty - can you set that up?

Yes! I got it! Parking lot post will count on mondays and saturdays, double on the days after a win.
But in all honesty I'm leaning towards no.

Of course at this point I'm almost at 2,000 so mabe 5,000 will come sooner rather then later, but I'm at a point where enough people know me around here that my post count doesn't really matter anymore.

Re: Should posts in the parking lot count towards total post counts?
No, because of a certain thread that was started last season that had eveyone bitching about the friggin post count in the first place. People care more about that post count than they let on. It's fine the way it is now. If it isn't broke then don't fix it. I agree with Schneed, we have wasted way too much time on this topic already.

Re: Should posts in the parking lot count towards total post counts?
I'm a member of a lot of message boards, and when I go there usually I look at the post counts because it gives me somewhat of a sense of what board members are usually the top dogs there. Once you get to know them though post counts don't matter. I'm sure when outsiders come here they probably look at post counts just to get a sense of how long the board has been running and who the older more respected members of the board are though.
I'm sure if outsiders came here and didn't see the post count they wouldn't feel like such an outsider, they'd just get a sense that it's a board with a lot of members and post counts don't really matter.

Re: Should posts in the parking lot count towards total post counts?
Well if I was new to a message board and that sort of thing happened, I'd just chalk it up to the fact that all boards have members who contribute, and then other members who are a-holes that make stupid posts all the time. I can't say that's how everyone would perceive that situation though, although most people with common sense probably would. If the majority of the board was a breeding ground for stupidity (such as an Eagles message board. I kid, I kid) and it seems like there isn't anybody there that doesn't make ridiculously stupid posts I'd probably leave that board though.
