TBH, I think we have more pressing needs at other positions that need to be addressed immediately, more so than QB. We're talking about a 3rd QB here, one that's not likely to see action for a long while, if at all, considering JC is our projected future. Any QB selected at whatever round in the draft we decide to do so, will be a project, simular to last years selection of Jordan Palmer. If we're drafting for need, then both O & D lines, CB, S, and WR should be our first priorities, not saying QB is not important, but not in the first three rounds. |

Re: Using a high pick on QB.
IMO the folks saying JC 'won't fit' with Zorn's offense either don't have a very sophisticated understanding of football or have not spent much time watching Campbell play on tape - or both. I also agree that given the Redskins needs it wouldn't make sense to take a QB until the 4th or 5th round at the earliest. That being said, QBs are currency in the NFL and it isn't always a bad thing to get a guy, if only to trade him down the road (Schaub, Rob Johnson, even Sage Rosenfels - who the Skins drafted in the 4th round years ago - was drawing trade interest this offseason).

Re: Using a high pick on QB.
I wouldn't pick one any higher than the 4th round. In a perfect world, we draft a QB in the 6th or so, JC burns up the league, draftee plays a few snaps looks good and we trade him for high picks.
If you HAVE a good QB, investing low round draft picks in back-ups can turn out quite lucrative (e.g. Brett Farve -Mark Brunnell, Matt Hassleback, more recently Matt Shaub)

Don't forget we have no 4th that goes to Denver for the last installment for the Duckett trade. But hopefully we will have the comp. 3rd round pick which will make two 3rd round picks and also the two 7th round comp. picks.

Re: Using a high pick on QB.
I agree we have too many other pressing needs to be taking a QB in the first 3 rounds.I figure we'll probably take one in 5th or 6th rd.I would be stoked if Colt Brennan is there but would be happy with Kevin O'Connell,Bernard Morris or maybe Matt Flynn.

Re: Using a high pick on QB.
I would not be surprised at all to see the Skins draft a QB. I am not convinced that Zorn & Co. really believe that JC will end up being their QB.

Re: Using a high pick on QB.
I don't see it happening. I think we are trying to structure our offense around JC the correct way now. I'm sure the proper amount of research was done before they even hired Zorn to determine if him and JC could coexist. Drafting a QB in any round before the 6-7th, wouldn't be a wise move on our part. The only way I could see it happening, is if someone really good (Haven't seen one yet this year) fell to the later rounds.

Re: Using a high pick on QB.
Anyone think that Campbell is a little on the delicate side?
His knee dislocation at the Bears game aside. He went out for a snap or two earlier in that game and seems to go out a lot when he gets a minor rattling. I feel for that reason looking into a QB isn't the worst of ideas, especially if we have Zorn teach this guy and get the early learning out of the way. Let me reiterate, I'm a Campbell fan.

A minor rattling or did you mean near death experience? Which one.... For me the proof was in many games but the one that stands out loud and very clear was 2006 last game in DC and of our season (the almost new years eve game 12/30/06) against the giants. He all but got killed out there and you could not keep the young man off the field. One shot he took we thought he was going off the field in a cart straight to the hospital, next thing you know JC is right back out there moving the ball.....west coast style. We came so close to winning that game it was unreal. The giants went on to a wild card with an 8-8 record.

Re: Using a high pick on QB.
Lets not forget that we worked out Jamarcus Russel last season too. This doesnt neccesarily mean anything.

For some reason I remember him coming out for a few snaps in another game other than the Bears. He always seems to get up gingerly when there is a routine hit on him.

Re: Using a high pick on QB.
Collins didn't take any snaps until the Chicago game, so JC couldn't have missed any time before that.
