As SS alludes to he's a very solid all around player. You can't judge him on sacks alone. He'll never be a sack demon, but he plays the run well and plays with a high motor.

Thats such a misleading statistic...Only coming in the game on 3rd and 16 is a lot different than having to tackle running backs every other down. How many sacks and tackles did the DT next to him have? Or the outside linebacker on his side?

Re: Justin Smith

Not to mention he draws a double team on the majority of snaps. This is one guy I would love to see us go and get.

I never said the guy wasn't good. I understand he plays the run well and has a great motor, but has often been mentioned on this board as a pass-rush compliment to Andre Carter. I think we'd be better off drafting D-lineman than paying huge $$ for a guy like him. The FA market isn't that great this year. Guys are getting overpaid everywhere- $30M for Jerry Porter? $3M/yr for Cleo Lemon? $33M for Madieu Williams? I'm glad we're not a big player right now.

Re: Justin Smith

I think if we made him our only real free agent "splash," then that would free us up to do a lot of things in the draft. D-Line could be a priority to be handled in later rounds. In the first we could go CB, WR, or O-Line

Yeah, but only $4M is guaranteed, which is what pretty much everyone expected him to get regardless of where he signed. Plus he's already one of our own. A sound move.

Yea Ive got no problem with him as a backup, he doesnt have the arm strength in my opinion to be a starter, but anyways thats not point, i was just joking about the list of signings thats all.

All we can do is joke, normally we would be watchign four or five press conferences by now...

And chances are if we had any extra $$ this year nothing would have changed and we'd have a few big names already under the belt.

Re: Justin Smith

I've said it every post about FA's and I think it deserves saying here. Give me one FA this year and I want Justin Smith. Everything else can be addressed in the draft or June 1 cuts. I want this man more than I wanted April (name excluded to protect the innocent) in Middle School. Just one big dollar guy. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Justin Smith

My Justin Smith bandwagon seems to be getting rather crowded...regardless I think by Monday he'll be signed but not to us (Minnesota maybe?), and I'll have to begin a new bandwagon

Re: Justin Smith

espn radio reported he signed w/the 49ers. So he didn't sign w/us but he did w/the new Skins. The 49ers are definitely trying to sign everybody.

I think it was 6 yr./45mil w/20 guaranteed, but don't quote me on that.
