That is perhaps because it is blatantly sexist and more than a bit ignorant. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a good number of sportswriters never played the game at any meaningful level, and a lot of the best athletes in the world SUCK as commentators/writers (Emmitt Smith can't even speak coherently, I'd hate to read anything he wrote). Attack Jenkins on her substance (or lack thereof), not her gender. I'm only stating the obvious, but give me a break.

Sally really does hate for the sake of hating. This time she's not even in the ballpark though. It's like she just recycled some of her garbage from 3 years ago. I think people would take her more seriously if she just once in a while wrote something halfway positive.

I have several problems with your article suggesting that Steve Spagnuolo should run away from Dan Snyder and the Redskins.

First, Spagnuolo might be wise to cash in while he's hot. As Gregg Williams and other coordinators know all too well, head coaching opportunities don't always a come a knockin'. That's why Al Davis (who is Dan Snyder on crack, meth and junk) can always find a new victim and why guys like Romeo Crennel work for the once laughable Browns. If the Giants defense has a sub-par 2008 season or, worse, implodes this upcoming season, Spagnuolo will not be on too many head coaching short lists.

Second, the notion that the Redskins cannot win without a general manager is simply wrong. Many teams do quite well without GMs (Dallas, the #1 seed in the NFC, has a GM named Mr. Jones). Many teams with respected GMs don't do so well (see the Texans' record under Charley Casserly). Moreover, many hot coaching candidates want some or total control over personnel. Danny went that route in 2000 with Marty and 2003 with Spurrier and, suffice it to say, neither venture was particularly successful.

Third, your article suggests that it is unreasonable to believe that Snyder would have retained Tom Coughlin after last season. Steve Spurrier posted back to back losing seasons (the second of which was flat out embarassing), yet Snyder backed Spurrier at every turn. Joe Gibbs also woefully unperformed in 2 of his 4 seasons, yet Snyder wanted to sign him to an extension.

Fourth, you scoff at the notion that the Redskins could ever find contributors in the lower rounds of the draft. Perhaps you are unfamiliar with H.B. Blades, Reed Doughty, Anthony Montgomery, and Kedric Golston, as well as undrafted free agents Chris Wilson, Lorenzo Alexander, Stephon Heyer, and Leigh Torrence. That's not to mention former players like Lemar Marshall and Antonio Pierce.

Fifth, your article repeatedly praises the Giants ownership and front office for its patience. I find a great deal of irony in that view. As your article conceded, the Giants were in total disarray for several years and many players openly and privately questioned Tom Coughlin's leadership abilities. Perhaps you should be 1/2 as patient with Dan Snyder as the Mara family has been with Tom Coughlin.

I know that you are writing an op-ed, not a news article. I also know that we are in the Fox News/Bush era of "us versus them," where people abuse hyperbole after hyperbole to get their point across. If nuance were a stock, it would be worthless. BUT, it would be nice to read an op-ed every once in a while that is truly "fair and balanced." Sadly, you and the people at extremeskins.com are two sides of the same coin.
nice job

Well its always easy to write articals about what went right with team and what went wrong after the fact and she takes this oppertunity to try and stick it to Snyder.

You might want to follow that up with something about our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounders as well. She cited Giant examples of same, so should we. Our low rounds have been very good, but the upper and middle rounds also have to mean something, or so the traditional thinking goes.

Re: Man, is Sally Jenkins dating Antonio Pierce?

Wow that article is way out there. She may be on some depression pills or something she's on Mars.

The Redskins HC job is one of the best in the NFL. All owners want to win and Snyder did make mistakes early on with Marty and Steve but Norv was here a while and couldn't get it done.

Spags could pass this up and be a lifetime DC with never another shot at the Head spot. Too much is made of coaches being in place already. That's fine for a first year guy and I"m sure they are talking about every last detail live in one on one talks.

So for that article to come out now shows Sally is a New Yorker with not much knoweledge of the NFL or Redskins.

She's a shock jock and this was her best yet!!

Sally is a joke guys and the Post should fire her ass now.

As a coordinator you have to strike while the iron is hot. Spags has an incredible opportunity in front of him. But I guess he should just walk away because Sally has it out for Snyder. Give me a break. Spagnoulo would have to be pretty stupid to not think long and hard about taking this job if it's offered to him. There are only 32 NFL head coaching jobs in the world. Who knows, an off year next year for the Giants D and he's on the back burner for head coaching jobs. Again, you have to strike while the iron is hot.

Re: Man, is Sally Jenkins dating Antonio Pierce?

Honestly, I can't even believe the post pays her for that crap. Sally "Blow Me" Jenkins has hit a new low...

Spangnuolo is interviewing for the job of head coach of the Washington Redskins. I don't care if you do hate the Redskins (as blow me obviously does) no one...NO ONE...can argue this isn't one of the most prestigious jobs in the NFL. To say this guy should run away from this because Snyder may be difficult to work with - and expects results - is absolutely absurd. This is undoubtedly one of THE premier jobs in the world.

Blow me's argument truly amounts to this: Snyder is a tough guy to work for. So forget this is a great job, with a great franchise, with great players - a team that went to the playoffs last year - with great fans, great stadium, great facilities, great location...forget all of that. No, if you're spagnuolo's friend you should tell him not to take it "...because Snyder will expect too much from you."

Huh? That's like if I was offered a job as VP of Marketing for the Redskins. It would be my dream job, and it would be tough. I would have long hours, there would be expectations that I should perform at a high level. But all of you guys should tell me to not take it "..because Snyder is a hard guy to work for." Look, you can say it's going to be a tough job with long hours, but what kind of friends advise their buddies not to take a great job because it might be too hard? I tell you what kind of friends: dumbasses that don't know what the they're talking about.

I mean...excuse me, but isn't that why Snyder's gonna pay him $20 million dollars? Shouldn't there be an expectation that his teams will win?

And all this crap about how the vaggies hung with Coughlin when snyder would have fired him is absurd. I say we wait a few more years and see how the vagiants do before we declare he's going to the hall of fame with the giants - ESPECIALLY if spagnuolo leaves!

In coughlins' 12-year NFL Head Coaching career he has has 5 winning seasons and 7 losing season. He is 111-95 - barely above .500. So if you're in NY and he resigns for four more years, statistics say he will have a winning record in only two of those years. So as a Redskin fan I say hell yes...resign him! Let's wait until 2010 and see where coughlin is. Then we'll see how this NY loyalty thing works out

And as for all this talk about how all eight of the vagiants draft picks made the team, in recent years most of our picks have made the team as well:

2006 draft
2. Rocky McIntosh, LB, Miami
5. Anthony Montgomery, DT, Minnesota
6. Reed Doughty, S, Northern Colorado
6. Kedric Golston, DT, Georgia
7. Kili Lefotu, OL, Arizona
7. Kevin Simon, LB, Tennessee

2007 draft
1. landry, SS
5. sartz, LB
6. blades, LB
6. palmer, QB
7. Tyler Ecker, TE

So out of the last two years only Simon, Sartz, and Palmer - 3 out of 11 - Redskins' draftees have not made the squad their draft year. Add in Stephon Heyer - an undrafted FA - and one could argue that our drafting ability is decent. Maybe not the best in the NFL, but certainly not something that would dissuade somebody from taking what may be the greatest job in coaching. Hardly anyone gets it 100% right. And statistics also say if the vagiants hit it 100% last year this year they'll be lucky to get 50%. We'll see.

And as for this notion that snyder would have traded manning if he hadn't won after three years, all I can say is this: Jason Campbell just finished his second season. Do you really think Snyder feels like Campbell needs to win a superbowl next year or he's done?

That's absurd.

So I guess I should thank blow me. Because she just made me like danny snyder a whole lot more than I did yesterday.

I don't think quality and stability of coaching has been the problem. I think quality and stability of the players has been the biggest problem. Gibbs taught Snyder some patience in that area, and it's starting to pay off.

I agree - she just hates for the sake of hating.

It is what it is, but at the same time, where else in the world do we let people with no experience in an arena consistently write errant reports and bad mouth and organization in which that person has had no idea on whats is good from the ground up? Sports is the only place that we tolerate it, and I am not sexist, not by any means. Like I said the statement may sound that way, but realistically, I wouldn't want to listen to someone comment on politics who hasnt been involved in that arena. That also goes for science, religion, and, in this case, sports.

People have made the same comment about John Clayton from ESPN. Matter of fact, when he and Sean Salsbury(sp) go at it on the shows, Sean makes fun of him for commenting on a game he NEVER played. It just so happens that this OP/ED is written by a woman, and whether we like to admit it or not, gender does play a certain, small part in why she lacks ethos to comment on football.

I apologize if I offended any of the forum members, but I stand by my comments.

How many of us have played in the NFL?

So what gives us any credibility? Because we played some high school ball or because we play Madden??

You do realize that Salisbury is just joking with Clayton right? And he has total respect for him and his knowledge of the sport, regardless of whether he played professionally or not.

Since all we know you here as is the dude who throws Chipotle burritos into the stands at Verizon Center, then gets the inside scoop on Vilma for Portis (or maybe it was Betts) trades from George Michael we'd all appreciate it if you kept your discussions on this board to burritos and trades that don't happen...doesn't make much sense does it? And neither does your rant against "those that have not been involved in that arena."
