That's awesome. How was he when you met him, did he say anything memorable to you? |

Agreed, effort first! Iggy started the Jansen for a DE and a pick thread, and now this one. He's new, (and tough, as you rightly stated) so he gets another go.

I loved Justin Skaggs both with the NFL and the AFL. Such a tragic loss. RIP Justin, RIP Kevin Mitchell, RIP Sean Taylor. Get Well Soon Taylor Gibbs, Ron Springs, and Holly Bugel

Re: Justin Skaggs?
Yeah, I have to support Rob here, it may not be his place but this is the third thread that Iggy has started in two days that had very little value as far as knowledgeable discussion. No hate towards you Iggy, I am sure I have started worse threads. Dont take anyones criticism as an attack, there are just rules to starting threads here. I know it is the offseason, but I am surprised on how lax the mods have been on threads lately. Maybe the thread from during the season about proper thread starting should be brought back up. I now its not my place to make such decisions, just my opinion; and for the record I am in no way trying to criticize the mods, you all do a great job here.

It's a shame because we have had some good threads and discussions in recent weeks, but unfortunately the crap stands out. Because it is the off-season and because of the above mentioned we probably have been a bit lax, but zero tolerance policies are going to start being in full effect. Matty, anything to add?

Justin Skaggs was great! when my girlfriend (now wife) met him outside of the locker room/gym area at Carlisle. He was always smiling after practice, always happy to simply have the opportunity he was granted. I liked him because (and I'm sorry if this isn't PC, but...) I could relate to him. He was 6 foot nothing, 170 lbs and white - sorry but he was someone that made me say "WOW! He's in the NFL!!!". I kind of told him that when we talked and I asked for his autograph. My wife and I were still there when he came out of the facility in street clothes, we talked again. I asked him about playing for a small school, asked if he thought he really could contribute and what made him continue to press on. He seemed to have all the right answers and I cannot forget just how happy he was to have someone talk to him, that knew a bit about his college career and took the time to listen. We walked with him to a small restuarant - wife (to be) had ice cream since it was boiling hot as always during TC! - Justin grabbed something to eat, said thanks for talking and hoped to see us around again, to make sure we said hi if we saw him. He ended by saying "I'll remember you if I see you, I never forget faces... we're not that famous around here", as he smiled and left. When I read about his death I was simply taken back - even more so then the recent passing of Sean who I was a huge fan of, as we all were. Having actually spent almost 30 min. in total with Justin made it seem 'real' to me that he was gone and I am very happy with some of the other conversation we had that I will not get into (this novel is long enough). When I saw his jersey last year at the tent sale and said "I HAVE TO GET THIS" the guys behind me just laughed..... if only they had an idea. This is why I'm a 'Skins fan, their family in a way, even in the smallest amount. HAIL!!! |

What a sad story to hear of his passing, and I'm glad you came on here to share your experience with us. It's interesting to hear how these players influence those around them. Maybe you should consider letting the family know how great Justin was to you and your wife, I'm sure that they would appreciate what you have to say. One this is for sure. You'll never see me over at extremeskins, but feel free to come by as often as you'd like. Thanks for the story, hope to see you around here more often. |

Re: Justin Skaggs?
Fellow skins fans...its okay. I can take take critism if it only helps me to better the threads I post in the future. I should have googled Mr. Skaggs and would've got the answer I needed. I'll definitely put a little more effort into my posts in the future so lets all move on. Thanks to those who were quick to back me up. GO SKINS!

Re: Justin Skaggs?
Well if you goggled this I would not have known he had passed. Maybe we sould start trolling threads for bad post as I have read 100s of post about this team which are based on nothing and the people posting did not have a clue if what they posted was even true.

Re: Justin Skaggs?
Whoa...
All I was saying... one comment... was that before you start a new thread, make sure you Google your topic. 80% of useless threads can be avoided by either searching for duplicate threads via user search tool, or just plain using google. I'm not some post cop going on a crusade for swift and just punishment to those that post dumb threads, I'm not even calling this thread dumb. It just should be common sense to put forth minor effort before diluting a great forum with duplicate and pointless threads. I don't even care anymore. Post dumb threads, whatever... I'm going to go make a ham, egg, bacon and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel. |
