Re: The New American Gladiators
I watched both episodes last night, and for me the verdict is still out. However, I'm leaning towards a big NO, especially since you can watch the old ones on ESPN Classic.
I too was disappointed in the way the commercials cut up the competition, and that there are only 4 events then the eliminator (instead of 5). Hang Tough looks ridiculously easy, they ruined Assault (you have to load the weapons?), and one of the new events (Hit and Run) is pretty pathetic (reminds me of MXC). However, Earthquake has potential, and the other events are similar to their predecessors. I'm still not sure about the Eliminator. I like that it's tougher and longer, but it might be too long. And yes, the female gladiators are very hot.

Re: The New American Gladiators
I think a big part of the reason that I didn't like the show from the get-go was 1) the first contestants intro was depressing (and then she got hurt) and 2) they made Power Ball way too easy. They used to have the goals farther away from the competitors, which meant that the gladiators had more time to get to them. Also, the goals used to be much smaller meaning that you had almost no chance of shooting the ball into it. Now they have these wide mouth canisters and contestants were making jump shots right and left.
Also, the gladiator Helga may have been the biggest joke that I've ever seen. She was in one event and basically just stood there to take up space. They should have just put Lila Ali in there with 24oz gloves on and let her dominate the contestants.

Re: The New American Gladiators
The blonde guy who is the new face of the show looks like a total D-bag and the African-American dude with the dreads looks like Whoopi Goldberg on steroids. No thanks. I liked the Eliminator when I was 10 years old. Now, that concept makes me laugh.

Totally with you there. She's one of two who don't look like men with boobs.

I also agree with SGG when he said that blonde guy looks like the King of All D-bags. That's probably why he's spent the majority of his adult life in the gym.

Re: The New American Gladiators
I watched bits and pieces. From what I watched:
1) It seemed every bit as cheesy as the first time around. But then, as I recall, the first time around it wasn't billed for prime-time but as a late night syndicated filler. That's about what this show was worth. 2) The female gladiators (at least the ones I saw) were not in any way attractive. Though Crush (above) looks pretty hot, the rest seemed much more Helga'ish. If it's Saturday night at 11:00 and I can't find anything else on, I'll watch the show. Pretty much like I did the first go around.

Okay, I must not have seen this one, 'cause I'd let this woman tackle me any day.

In overall quality, yeah. But that may just be my clouded memories of youth.

I didn't see the episode last night but my friend said she liked it. I bet it pulled in some pretty good ratings as well. From all those people who remember Gladiators from back in the day.
