Re: Hall Of Fame Nomination List For 08'
Quote:
Monk has better numbers in every category than Moore, and Carter has gaudier TD's and marginally better receiving yards, but won a whopping 4 playoff games in his career and never even WENT to a Super Bowl. The worst thing they can say about Monk is that he played on a team with a lot of other talented players, so he wasn't the star of the offense. And considering the fact that this is true and he still finished with numbers as impressive as he did, says all you need to know about the man. Plus, regardless of the situation, Carter should NOT have been talking as a journalist about Monk's chances in the HoF when he knew he himself was going to be eligible the next year. If Carter makes it and Art does not, it will prove once and for all that the voters care more about the loudmouths in the loud suits who are on TV, than the guys who busted their asses every week without becoming a self-indulging spectacle.

Re: Hall Of Fame Nomination List For 08'
I thought it was on TV but it was just on the Intarwebs, I stand corrected there:
Ask Cris: Strategic move - NFL - Yahoo! Sports Basically he said that Monk was not the most feared receiver on his team and didn't make a lot of Pro Bowls. Which, surprise, surprise, are both things that were true of Carter and his Vikings. Except they flamed out in the playoffs perennially. I think it's fairly disingenuous for Carter to answer this question just a few weeks before the HoF nominations come out, knowing he'd be a first ballot candidate. That question shouldn't have been picked for his little "mailbag" at all.

I gotta believe Green is a lock and Monk may just get to ride his coat-tails in as well.

Re: Hall Of Fame Nomination List For 08'
If there's ever a year for sentiment to prevail over common sense and get Art in, this would be the year. Like I said, if it doesn't happen this year in my mind that's just outright intentional.

Herman Moore is not a HOF receiver, so I wouldn't worry about him getting in.

Re: Hall Of Fame Nomination List For 08'
Darrell Green WILL be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
EVIDENCE: - 7 time Pro-Bowl Selection - 54 Career Interceptions - Played 20 years in the NFL - Faster than jeebus. Clocked at 4.125 in the 40 yard dash. Ran a 10.08 100m dash. (I know that last one has nothing to do with the HOF, but daaaaamn...). He has the numbers, the reputation, and the character to be a first ballot hall of famer

Re: Hall Of Fame Nomination List For 08'
Only 7 Pro-Bowls ? We may be asking a bit too much of the HOF voters for him to get in.

Hanburger had 9 Pro Bowls
Chris Hanburger statistics - pro-football-reference.com I wonder if Mr. Cooke will ever be nominated.
