Re: Well Big Joe is gone

I'm not really suprised by this move, it looks like they wanted a youth movement there and I hadn't heard much about him this preseason. I hope he catches on with another team, he's a nice guy and a decent player when healthy.

i really like big joe. with that out of the way, this is a good sign. the skins are that happy with the kids that they feel they can afford to let salaeva go

I think they're pretty confident on their top 3 of Griffin, Golston and Montgomery.

Why so shocked? You could have any one of our starting rotation of D linemen cut and get the same if not better performance from the younger guys, and that is not saying much. Obviously coach thinks the younger guys show more promise than Joe. There will be a couple more surprises left for us before we get to 53.

Re: Well Big Joe is gone

I think this move says just as much about K.Golston, L.Alexander, D.Evans, and A.Montgomery as it does about Big Joe. Joe was a big body to plug holes, but his mobility has plummeted, and he hasn't really been a contributor for over a year. I'll miss having him around. I am encouraged that our D coaches are impressed enough with the Dline to make this move. I'm looking for Golston to have a breakout year. Fingers crossed.

great, first Marshall now Salave'a.

He's been doing well too. I read an article in the Wash. Times that him and Wynn were training extra hard this offseason with a body builder. It said they were pulling trucks and everything.

Re: Well Big Joe is gone

This call had to suck for Joe Gibbs, Big Joe was definately a Gibbs type guy; where we might miss him is when the young guys get dinged up and still have to play at the same level- Big Joe was great for adding toughness to the team, and a mean streak when things got tough. I am going to miss that guy.

Re: Well Big Joe is gone

well i figure that because behind griff who is there? golston should be good but we dont know for sure, plus injury history in college. montgomery is not really impressive to me at all. so who is there?

when one of them goes down, which is the almost bound to happen during the season, we will be very thin.

the weakness of our defense just got a bit weaker

No, we'll use Goltston, Montgomery (who has looked pretty good, not great, during pre-season) and Griff. Then you have the kid Alexander competing for the back-up role. Wynn can also play DT, so we have plenty of depth at that position.

I co-sign with the youth movement theory. Cutting Marshall and Big Joe means the staff is impressed with the young guys.

Re: Well Big Joe is gone

I really think cutting Marshall and Big Joe was a bad idea this year. Honestly I think we should have gone out and fished one more DT tackle out of the draft last year or maybe a younger guy in free agency. As for Marshall, I think he was doing good, not as good as previous years but the whole defense struggled last year, he was just one out of 11.
