Not unless you are trying to get me to refinance my house bro.

Mail comes around noon. I'll check and let you know.
Thanks!

Re: Operation BBQ - Now Taking Donations!

I see the $105 and will kick in $500.
EDIT: This is $500 money. The time and labor of doing all this has ZERO money value. I owe them.

That's $605

Well, I will put the push on the cycle forums one last time and hopefully you will get some help out of those folks.

Good luck and can't wait to see the pics.

Checks can be made to me. Just mark them for Operation BBQ for the Troops. 110% of all money collected will go to this cause and any left over money will be donated to the Hospital before we leave that day.

Make Checks to:

I sent it to this address. I just check and it has not cleared my bank and it has not been returned. lets give it another day or 2 and I'll send another check. Was that the correct adress?

Re: Operation BBQ - Now Taking Donations!

Latest and Greatest.

Hey Folks!

I got busy late last week chasing Dead Presidents but I'm back and big things are happening. Looks like most is coming together so I will summarize what we have and what we need. This will be a big week for collecting donations for me and I hope to get this part done and off my list.

FOOD AMOUNTS:
Everyone is stepping up and cooking and bringing stuff. Could you all email me back and tell me what exactly you are planning to bring and or cook? That way I can see where are holes are at. Burgers, Beans and it looks like chicken is covered. What are you cooking? Are you bringing that meat or need it provided?

VOLUNTEER HEAD COUNT
Everyone on earth wants to be a part of this and that's great but we need to keep our volunteer numbers in check. Email me back with exactly how many you are planning to bring. Try and keep numbers small but I understand good people wanting to help.

DONATIONS
Like I said I will go out this week and collect money. If you are collecting money for this event use it to pay for the meat and charcoal you are planning to use. I still need to pay the $1,800.00 for the 50% tent. So if you collect large amounts make checks payable to either Mike Hedrick or Pit Pirate BBQ and mail them to me asap. Mike Hedrick 2402 Sagamore Court, Lake Ridge VA 22192. 100% of ALL MONEY WILL BE USED ONLY FOR THIS EVENT. Any additional funds will be donated to the Walter Reed Playground Project.

Frager’s Hardware and Just Ask Rental will supply thirty 8’ tables and 250 folding chairs.

Judges:
Pauline Ray [?]
Highest Ranking Officer on site
A Wounded Soldier
Alfy Austin
Victor Stanley
Rob Baier [if he wants to]

6:00 PM Loading and Cleaning

7:00 PM Prayer of Thanks to God from Cook Teams and we head out having been blessed beyond measure to be able to do this. Thanks!

CONTEST
Operation BBQ for Our Troops Maryland vs. Virginia Boys BBQ Contest.
This will be a secondary thing and food for Troops is first. I'll go buy a small trophy from my own pocket for this folks.

T-SHIRTS
Lenny Rogers at Rogers Screen Printing and I are making up some shirts. None of the donated money will be used for the shirts only food and supplies. I had paid bbqlogos.com $200 of my money for the cute little logo we use and wanted to make some shirts. I'll have 72 shirts on the 10th and will bring some to the event. If you would like you may purchase them from me for cost which is about $8-$10. They will be 100% cotton shirts with full color logo on the back with the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington DC and the date. The front will have the 2 color official Op. BBQ for Our Troops logo.

RECON VISIT THURSDAY
I'll be going up to Walter Reed on Thursday to meet with Ms. Pauline Ray and get a look around. I'll take pictures of where we will be. It may be different then where the event was held last year. I plan on visiting some Soldiers when I am there and will get them pumped up about us coming.

Well, that's my story and I'm sticking with it. Get that info back to me asap and I'll send another email by week's end.

Thank you all and may God richly bless you.
peace
mike

Re: Operation BBQ - Now Taking Donations!

Here is my email to the Teams and Vols.

Quote:
Hey guys and gals,

I made a recon trip to Walter Reed today to meet Pauline Ray of the USO and to get a look at where we will be and get a few answers and to tell her more of my plans. Things are going to be wonderful for the Troops and they need it. I was prepared to see the guys and gals with amputations as an amputee but, the scars and wounds were hard to see them wear. Our great medical achievements keeps so many more alive but sometime pretty wounded. I'm more committed then ever and we'll do a great job.

USO and Walter Reed Are Excited
The plans and details we have worked out are just perfect and the ladies from the USO today think this will be such a great event. The Soldiers I met are excited too and one said he hopes he's "not discharged too soon". [I hope he goes home. We'll get someone to bring him BBQ.] They liked our plans and coordination and things we have are going to do..

Changes Hair Salon and Massages
The owners and folks at Changes Hair Salon are now coming to give quick hair style cuts to the wives of the wounded men and hair cuts to husbands of wounded women and their children. They will give massage back RUB therapy too. I'll have them under one of our 10x10' EZups

Load In Time & Parking
We may be able to Load in as early as 7am the morning of the event. Parking is VERY limited so arrive as early as possible and carpool. We may have to limit the pits to about 6 or so but I want as many as possible. Get there early folks. You don't have to have a Special Pass before hand but I may send out a form we may all need to fill out as we get there or before. All looks smooth but very little parking.

Maps, Directions & Site Layout

Once there we will be serving the food in long tables down the sides of this long Breezeway. It's like 20' wide and 80' long. Hospital enters this area on both sides so food can be taken up to rooms as well as feed in rain or shine.

Go up the steps behind me and it's where there will be a stage tent with a long pond behind them. I've been added to the music as a filler but I'm so competitive it's Battle of the Bands" to me. lol
http://www.mikehedrick.com/bbq/opbbq...on/recon02.jpg

This is a view of the way we'll need to drive the pits up from the road to cooking area.
http://www.mikehedrick.com/bbq/opbbq...on/recon03.jpg

Pits will have to fit up here under these trees. There will be a 30'x30' tent back to the left there too.
http://www.mikehedrick.com/bbq/opbbq...on/recon04.jpg

Here is a map of where Walter Reed is off the I-495. Georgia Ave. South. Take 16th Street South for about 4 Miles and Turn Left into Main Gate.
http://www.mikehedrick.com/bbq/opbbq...on/recon05.jpg

Pull in and over to the right to get a Pass. Go around Roundabout and take first Right. Hook Left into Access Road/Path to Cooking Area. Vols. find a place to park...quick.
http://www.mikehedrick.com/bbq/opbbq...on/recon06.jpg

Close up. I flew up there to get these shots. Shew!
http://www.mikehedrick.com/bbq/opbbq...on/recon07.jpg

My Master Plan! Moowhahahahahaha!!!!!!!
http://www.mikehedrick.com/bbq/opbbq...on/recon08.jpg

Food Tally & Pit Count
I'll work on this Friday folks. We should have plenty of Food and possibly too many pits but I want to bring all we can fit. But I don't want a fella to haul his pit and not have space or make him haul it home. I'm working on it.

Delegating Duty
I'll be picking a guy to be the Head Chef On site to coordinate all us cooks and to make sure we are all on the same page and time schedule. I'll also be picking a Lady to be the Serving Lead to coordinate the set up and serving and also keeping the Vols. Clean and Works to our overall goal. I'll work as MC and also as a Floater to work with Walter Reed and the USO. As this gets bigger I will get smaller, as it increases I will decrease.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it!
Look for an Update on Monday.
Thanks and God Bless
mike
