As long as he's smart. MLB needs to be smart.

I think you meant "Supersmart."

Can you clarify this? Am I reading you right that if we pick up someone like Vonnie Holliday at linebacker that enables us to draft something other than a defensive lineman?

If so, I could not disagree with you more. I've said this in another post, but it won't matter who you put in at linebacker when your defensive line gets trampled. We must have an upgrade along the line, specifically at D-tackle. We got ZERO penetration from Griffin and Salave'a last season.

A 'supersmart' sure-tackling middle linebacker does you no good when he's forced to make that tackle 4+ yards after the line of scrimmage. It starts up front -- and if the Redskins don't get help up front, the defense will be right where they were last year, if not worse.

Since when does Vonnie Holliday play LB?

Regardless the guy is on the wrong side of 30 and has 12 sacks the last 3 years.

Pass.

My fault. I was thinking he played linebacker.

But wait -- Matty, what about all those people who say sacks don't really matter?

Sacks can be overrated at times, but when you're not getting any pressure that's a problem.

Regarding Holliday, unless I'm seriously missing something I don't see why he would be on our radar. We already have two very similar players in Daniels and Wynn.

I agree on the smarts aspect, but what I would like to see is a BIG MLB! Somewhere around 255lbs to 260lbs.

Re: Napoleon Harris at MLB?

There are better MLBs in the NFL than Napoleon Harris - - and there are worse ones too. Sadly, some of the "worse ones" happen to be Redskins at the moment. I believe he is a better MLB than anyone currently on the Skins' roster so that's a "positive".

Here's what bothers me:

Supposedly when the Vikes traded Randy Moss to the Raiders, Napoleon Harris was the "dealbreaker"; if the Raiders would not put him in the package, then the Vikes would not send Moss to Oakland. He was the guy they "had to have".

Now they just don't care all that much if he walks ... just a couple of years later ... just after the Vikes had a top-5 rushing defense for the season. Something's fishy here.
