Re: Walt Harris to the Pro Bowl

He had as good of a season as I have seen a corner have in a while. I think I saw him get beat like twice all season. The young Shawntae Spencer was our #1 guy coming in and he was the one who was actually getting thrown on and beat a considerable amont of plays. Harris shut down his guys for the most part all season. Glad to see he got in, his lack of name recognition was the only reason he was snubbed.

Kenny Wright might have gotten 6 picks as the nickle in SF also. Walt Harris may have gotten 0 here. We don't know.

Ints aren't a good way to make an arguement that we should have kept the guy. Everybody and their grandma knows he wouldn't have gotten more than 2 Ints here.

To be honest his INT's aren't what impressed me. Most of them were thrown right to him.

What did impress me was basically everything else he did this season. He wasn't even thrown on all that much, and when they did he would make the play. I think he denied Torry Holt at least 3 TD's this year.

You can't overlook interceptions but you also have to consider the circumstances. I'll cite Barry Wilburn and Larry Brown.

Barry Wilburn was a beast that one year (1987 I think) with 9 interceptions and everyone was like "Oh snap, Wilburn is da bomb!" But then you say, 'Well, how is this guy getting so many interceptions" Answer: Look across the field and see who's shutting down the other side. Yeah, Darrell Green. No one is even challenging him so Wilburn is getting tons of opportunities. Good for him though on making the most of them.

Then you look at Larry Brown (the Cowboy, not the Redskin), Super Bowl MVP with two interceptions. For one thing he was helped greatly by Neil O'Donnell throwing it right at him. But secondly, a lot of it was because the Steelers wouldn't dare throw to Deion's side.

Now I'm not saying this was the case with Harris because it's not like he has a stud on the opposite side of him. But in general terms it's a factor to be considered.

Talking about bad luck. We get a good player and then they suck and we let go of a poor player and then their good.

Re: Walt Harris to the Pro Bowl

He had 8 ints and look at the other corners that had high ints.
Asante samual 10
champ bailey 10
rasheen mathis 8
Nnamdi asomugha 8
charles woodson 8
walt harris 8
chris mcalister 6

I dont think it's all luck. I know you guys want to tell yourselfs that being that you started mike rumph (are you serious) for part of the year.

Very good points. If Shawntae Spencer (I was a big fan of his coming into the season) had been shutting down the #1 receivers week in and week out and Harris had been getting burned and making the occasional INT then I wouldn't even really care that much, making INT's while being burned all the time doesn't impress me.

But Spencer was actually the one being burned, thrown on, and would usually go against the #2 receiving threat. Harris covered the #1 most of the season and was only burned a couple of times that I can remember. Most his INT's weren't that impressive though. I think Walter threw him a few against Oakland and I know Cutler did in Denver.

I thought the aging Harris would be a weakness of the secondary before the season, but that actually ended up being Spencer (to be fair, he battled hamstring injury through the season).

Bailey had a really good season this year, one of the first years he has lived up to his reputation in a while. Why he got so much fellatio after last season I do not know, how many yards did TO put on him?

Chalk up another one to the worst front office in football. Another scapegoat goes on to glory while we win a handfull of games.

Nice one Vinny or Danny or Joe or whoever the hell makes all of the idiotic moves on a regular basis....

I don't think anyone saw Harris' 2006 campaign. I was watching him and thought he was a dime back at best. I can't blame the front office for that one.

Were you paying attention when you were watching him?

Except his '05 campaign was better than Wright's '06. They need to stop with the churn and burn mentality. Change for the sake of change does not work. I would like to know who decided that it would improve the team to drop Harris for an unknown entity.

Hell forget the question of switching Wright for Harris, what makes Rogers better than Harris? At least Harris can catch a ball that hits him in the hands.
