Re: Darrell Green... first ballot hof?

I think Green was a more valuable player to the Redskins than Art Monk was. Don't get me wrong, I think Monk was great. But can I honestly say he's one of the top 10 WRs ever to play the game? I'm not sure about that. But I feel very confident in saying that Darrell Green was one of the top 10 CBs to ever play the game.

The Hall-of-Fame voting is more like a popularity contest. It makes me sick.

DG will be HOF, first round. Right or wrong, he is far more popular with the media, and more well known. I can frequently remember corner backs in general being compared to DG. As much as I love Art Monk, you did not hear those kind of unsolicited types of comments from the media.

Interesting. I don't think I'd put him that high:

1) Jerry Rice
2) Lance Alworth
3) Lynn Swann
4) Marvin Harrison
5) Steve Largent
6) Cris Carter
7) Charlie Joiner
8) James Lofton
9) Tim Brown
10) Randy Moss

Re: Darrell Green... first ballot hof?

Green should be a lock, but with what has happened with Monk I'm not sure I know what a lock is anymore.

yeah I agree with this list also even thought I really believe if Carter and Brown are up there like it or not M.Irvin should be there also he's a top 10 wr we're talking of production not off field issues he change the game in his time and the way CB should be.

Carter and Brown are up there more because of their impressive longevity, in my book. Tim Brown is 2nd all time in receiving yards, and Carter is 4th. Irvin comes in at 14th. In terms of receptions, Carter is 2nd and Brown is 3rd, with Irvin tied for 18th. In terms of TDs, Carter is 2nd and Brown is tied for 5th with Largent, and Irvin only ranks 42nd.

Irvin put up his numbers over a shorter time span, and he has the rings, which definitely count for something. So I don't mean to discount Irvin altogether. Irvin is definitely in my top 15 (so is Monk). If stats told the whole tale, I'd be ranking Carter and Brown as 2nd and 3rd all time, but like Irvin, they come from an era in which passing was all the rage. It's just that Irvin, Carter, and Brown all came from the same era. They were all great, but the numbers put Carter and Brown just a bit ahead of Irvin for me.

That's the one I'm gunning for, and I hope to keep it for eternity! You better not give up though, I relish the competition!

I also desperately want the QB Challenge title back!
