Re: Will Redskins acquire a BIG back?

Davis will not be coming back. That would be insane.

Sellers is more than capable of short yardage and in knocking heads back. A lot of people don't realize he was a star RB in high school and (community) college, he just never gets the call in the NFL (two carries his entire NFL career).

6-3, 277 pounds? He's bigger than Alstott. I guaran-damn-tee he could punch it in if we gave him the ball.

I was watching what Seattle did when we ran the ball, they were sending 7 to 8 players right at Portis with no regard for any misdirection, pretty much what defenses have done to us for the past 2 years, we were able to back them off towards the end of the year, but as soon as we hit the Eagles that defensive game plan was back in play, and guess what? We didn't have an answer for it! Even Aikman said it looked like to him Seattle knew what was coming, where have we heard that before?

Big back's aren't going to make holes appear, run through D-linemen, and punch holes through a stacked box, they need help to.
I think that was said about Washingtons D early in the game.

Have three people seriously called for the Skins to get Ron Dayne so far in this relatively short-lived thread? There must have been something in that tequila in Mexico, cause I think my eyes must be messing with me...

Actually I think we will lose Rock in FA this year which will allow Nemo to step up and play that short yardage role. We have other areas, like WR that are a MUST to be able to stretch the field outside of Moss and Patten. This offense with a proven #2 and #3 WR will be dominant...I'm talking 1992 dominant.

I concur. I don't see Denver giving up any of their RBs. Mike Anderson won't last forever, and Shanahan might see Dayne as his heir apparent.

Even so, I wouldn't want Ron Dayne anyway.

I hear Maurice Clarett is available, but he could be out 10-20 with a pulled felony.

I think Nemo is the big Short yardage back...and they try to re-sign either Betts or Cartwright, but not both.

Betts is no more than a spot-back. He's good for 12-15 carries just to give Portis a breather now and then. I'm not sure what his cap implications are, but if jumps ship it's no great loss. Same goes for Cartwright. Both of them aren't as reliable with fumbling the ball either.

If we had Randy Thomas healthy for the playoffs, I bet this thread never would have started. When he is healthy, the Redskins get out on the edge behind him and move it very effectively. He's great at pulling, and you don't need much of a lead-blocking back when you can get Thomas into space. He was one of the biggest reasons we made the playoffs this year.
I love Clinton Portis....he's my favorite Skin....but is it just me or does it seems like he's always stummbling when he hits the line of scrimmage, just seems in Denver he ran more up-right....... I think we our line needs to be stronger.....

Re: Will Redskins acquire a BIG back?

I dont post on this site much i think this is post #4. but ive only seen a few people talk about Nemo as our big back. from what little i saw of him i was really really impressed the guy is so big (250) and he gets so low cause hes only 5'11. (Mike Alstot is 6'1 and 248) Now i know the Citadel isnt exactly a big time college but 581 carries for 2,638 yards, 25 touchdowns and 47 receptions for 355 yards and three touchdowns all that behind a lousy offensive line. We have the big back we need. But i agree with everyone in saying the we NEED a legit #2 and a dominant DE and another corner

Re: Will Redskins acquire a BIG back?

They do not need a big back. They need a pass rusher, #2 receiver, and possibly another veteran QB in that order.

Re: Will Redskins acquire a BIG back?

Their names are Manuel White Jr., "Nemo" Broughton, and possibly Sellers.

12-15 carries a game is pretty good for a change up back! That is exactly why you have Betts or Cartwright. I don't believe you get rid of both of them. Maybe one or the other, but I believe we also need to get Nemo into the equation and see if we can develop him...because as far as size is concerned, he's exactly what Gibbs would love to see in the lineup!
