Kind of rubs me the wrong way and I can see how people are upset about this.

Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things though.

It would have been a head scratcher had he done it before a Redskins-Cowboys game but whilst I don't like it it's hardly a et tu Brute move.

However, I thought he said that Cowboys blue made him ill.

So Jerry Jones also consulted with Gibb's before hiring a new coach.

Re: Joe Gibbs Motivational Speaker For Dallas Cowboys

Let me ask you guys who have no problem with this one thing. What if this was the night before a Redskins game? Before you say "oh thats different", is it? They are a division rival, and a W for them is an L for us. The point of a motivational speaker is to get the team on a higher level mentally to go out and win the game. He could have easily turned down the request and I dont think a single person in the free world would have questioned that.

Edit: if this was purely about religion than I have no problem with it. Hell after everygame players and coaches on both teams huddle up and pray - even the redskins and cowboys. I would have to hear the actual service he gave to determine if imo he was "motivating" them. Also, was it just Cowboy players and coaches?

It was a chapel service where he spoke about the Lord... his words, not a "pep talk" to motivate the Cowboys. You didn't read or watch Joe's explanation, right?

Joe Gibbs explains his ‘pep talk’ in Dallas

Yes I did, and I also made an edit to say that I have no problem with it being strictly religious. I read his explanation before I posted. You can quote scripture and give a service in chapel and use it to do alot of things. If this was a room full of Cowboy players and coaches and the focus was motivation and it was the day before a football game, than you are going to have a tough time telling me it had NOTHING to do with said game.

The NFL community is much closer than people seem to want to believe. When Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach wanted to get into NASCAR it was Gibbs that helped them out. When Jimmy Johnson secretly let it be known he was interested in talking to Snyder about a FO role after Gibbs retired, it was Gibbs and Aikman that arranged for a private meeting.

I know it is SS - I know that as fans we hate the star, and we hate the cowobys. That is gametime. That doesnt mean we should wish ill upon them or not want them to succeed in life after football.

Helping former cowboy players out after their NFL career is over, and being anywhere near the current players the day before a game and speaking to them about anything positive are two totally different things imo.
If Joe Gibbs wanted to spread the word to Dallas Cowboy players - than go ahead - do it in the off season, not on Saturday! lol

Re: Joe Gibbs Motivational Speaker For Dallas Cowboys

If Roger Staubach gave a speech to the Redskins on Saturday and we had gone out and beaten the Giants...would we be upset that a Cowboy was asked to speak to the Redskins?

In a purely football related sense yes. I would be just as dumbfounded by the choice of speakers. I stii love Gibbs. Im not going to let this stand in the way of what he did for the Redskins, but it will always be a tad bit of a headscratcher to me. Im over it though. Boys arent going anywhere with ir without Gibbs in the chapel with the players day before the Panthers game.

So I guess you don't believe Joe?

“I talked about the Lord,” he continued. “I did not talk anything about pep talks or football. So I just wanted to clarify that because I am getting a few emails and stuff in here. I want all the Redskins fans to know, hey, look, I’m Redskins all the way and all I was doing was a chapel service.”
