It's not that simple though. You have to trade two picks (two firsts I believe) plus compensate Freeney equal to what the Colts are compensating him.

Re: Dwight Freeney to Skins?

no way. most of freeneys sacks come when the colts have a big lead. and i think he only had 4-5 sacks this past season. for the kind of money he is going to get, he needs double digit sack numbers. or playing alittle more stout against the run

Re: Dwight Freeney to Skins?

I think this thread is nuts. I can't believe I'm replying...but I'll speak to the Freeney as a Redskin idea.

After watching the Colts in the playoffs, and specifically Freeney, I didn't notice any real impact that Freeney was making over the course of the games. He wasn't as bad against the run becasue he scheme seemed to be for him to keep the runner inside so the the LB could make the tackle. He seemed to be able to do that. No big time sacks though, and only a bit above average pressure.

Williams is getting that and more out of Carter already. Plus Carter seems to be getting constant pressure on the QB. Against Eli Manning, Carter was all over him even though he only got 1 sack. We have our pass rushing DE right now.

Please, forget about Freeney.

Re: Dwight Freeney to Skins?

The Colts have said that Freeney will be playing for them next year. I heard that on the Mike & Mike show this morning. I can't remember if they said this or if it was part of the news update they do every 15min but it was reported that Dungy said this.

Re: Dwight Freeney to Skins?

We need a team of no-names who have some talent and an intense desire to succeed...........you know, team guys! We don't need any more 20m dollar men.
Look at the Great Skins teams of the past. VERY FEW pro bowlers came out of those teams, but they were Dominant. That does not mean we can't have an indiscretion or two in the FA market.
Everybody knows the Hogs, but other than a Redskin fan, who can name them?

Re: Dwight Freeney to Skins?

I would hope to God that doesn't happen. too much money tied up on DE's that play the same position. Plus they are basically the same players (carter and freeney) Neither are true studs vs the run any way.

Well considering they drafted him late in the first round...I would think that its possible to find a player of that calibur with the 6th pick in the draft.

Not nessiciarily with our front office lol, but I do think you can get a player that good, easily.

Gotta disagree in a big way. The Redskins had a TON of big-talent, big-play guys during Gibbs' first tenure. See Riggins, Monk, Clark, Sanders, Didier, Jacoby, Bostic, Grimm, May, Butz, Coleman, Green, Manley, Mann, and the list goes on.

Re: Dwight Freeney to Skins?

I would not disagree, we were deep in talent. We had no Freeney's. We had a lot of guys with talent and work ethic.
Like I said, the Hogs were stars, but other than a Skins fan, who can name them? Not many HOF'ers (I mistakenly said pro-bowlers earlier)

I think I know what you're saying. We had the playmakers, but not the flashy superstars. Clark was the "flashiest" one of all, but he was still gritty and all-business on the field.

But oh, if we only go back to the days of finding Monte Coleman in the 11th round of the draft or Joe Jacoby in undrafted free agency.

Ahh, the 80's. Bobby Beathard, Joe Gibbs (1.0), and Culture Club ... who could ask for more?

I'd tumble for that. I watch today's Redskins and I think "do you really want to hurt me, do you really want to make me cry" Karma Karma Karma Chameleon is a bitch...and so on.

I'll stop now

Culture Club, holy shit.
That is what I meant. We had guys that played Great together. Not that many Great guys.
The off season should be real interesting. One of the most compelling things about Joe is his ability to evaluate and evolve. We'll see
