Have to read closely folks.
A 2 day old blog opinion of a beat writer does not meet my opinion of breaking news. sorry, but it really is a worthless story.

guy makes guess then immediately hedges, news at 10.

OK, now you've annoyed me, since I am the one who posted the article. First, the title of this thread is "Redskins Offseason Things". That's "things", not "breaking news". Also, everybody doesn't read everything on the internet each day.

I noticed that there was some interest in what I posted - namely that Keim was told by a source that the coaching staff believes Long "progressed well during the year," and will be a factor this season. Keim was apparently also told that Long will get every opportunity to unseat Chester. I'm pretty sure that Keim didn't just imagine this information.

The reason this has some significance to me is that it had had earlier been posted here that the previous OL coach may have shown favoritism towards Chester, which implied that Long didn't get a fair shot to win the job last season. So, I'm thinking that with a new OL coach and a new emphasis on power running, backed up by what Keim was told, the OL might be improved by inserting Long as the starter at RG. That's good (old) news, right?

It isn't a big deal, but it isn't worthless either. Keim is generally a straight shooter and an extremely good beat writer.

I can't recall an instance where he randomly threw out wild rumors out to generate clicks; unlike Chris Russell.

Given the source, his track record, and the access he has to people that matter, Keim's opinions matter. How much they matter varies depending on the subject.

Additionally, the reason the opinions of the coaches matter at this point is because someone has to take the reps with the 1st team. It isn't the be all end all, but the guy taking the 1st team snaps definitely has an advantage at winning the job.

Re: Redskins Off Season things.

The coaches want that out. They want to put alot of pressure on Chester, and get Long to bust his ass. Keim definately never just makes up stuff. I'm glad for a lot of reasons, maybe it means McLovin likes Long? Or the coaches like what they are seeing, and just want to give him a confidence boost.

Point taken. But that point still isn't incredibly impactful. I think we were always under the assumption that the offensive line jobs would be up for competition in training camp. And training camp, as we all know, is where the competition takes place.

Keim needs to drive clicks to his blog so he'll put out what he's heard and I do like to keep updated on it. But I also like to keep in mind that the real news that matters won't come out until we're deep into training camp.

Long V Chester won't play itself out till August, so this is kind of a 'these aren't the droids you're looking for, move along' kind of thing.

It's not your fault, you're posting the latest and that's always good to read. I'd want you to keep doing it, in fact. We're just adding our interpretation of the value of that information, that's all.

Redskins 2015 offense: Jay Gruden says it won't be like 2012 - NFL - SI.com

another offseason article that says a bunch of nothing.

gruden says the 2015 offense WILL NOT look like the 2012 offense. They will sprinke the read option in here and there but that is it.

either this is a bunch of media created back n forth dribble or the skins are way ahead of the game.

if D coordinators prepare their opponent gameplans in May, this is nothing short of brilliant.

Re: Redskins Off Season things.

I'm glad the Redskins hired this guy as our DC instead of Wade Phillips, he seems to mean business and doesn't look like a lost pussy the way Haslett did.

Are you saying WP would be lost as a DC? We know WP can lead a top 5 defense, lets see how Barry does in real games, not offseason pressers

Re: Redskins Off Season things.

i'd still take the guy with a track record of greatness over a complete unknown - everyone's awesome before they actually have to play a game. I mean, I'm hoping he's great, or least better tan haz (not hard), but i need to see it. they gave him a LOT of new bodies to make it work.

Had to happen eventually. Truly one of my favorite Skins and sorry to see him go. Both he and Brunell will forever be enshrined in my personal HOF for lighting it up against Jerry's kids that faithful night.....

Re: Redskins Off Season things.

Moss was on a 1 year deal so he wasn't released, they just don't plan on bringing him back right now.

Heck of a career here. One of the few trades we won.

Man, the end of an era (not too many of these around here lately). I know this was due but I hope he's able to transition into a good career post-football.
