Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
The pendulum doesn't swing, you are correct. However, not because Smith is 'worse' than Cousins. With the injuries this team suffered this season, aside from having Brady, Rodgers, maybe Brees, this team still finishes 7-9. This move, in my opinion, at a minimum maintains our current position with regard to the playoffs. If you wanted to keep Cousins it was going to take the 3rd franchise tag, period. He was never going to sign a long term deal here. So we got Smith for half that cost this year, and a reasonable contract for the next five years. But hey, we don't have to talk about the QB position any longer - we have our guy, Jay has his guy. Now the team has the resources to make up for the loss of Kendall Fuller and then some. Don't get me wrong, I don't like losing Kendall Fuller, but in big picture terms this is exactly what the doctor ordered. I'll take a pro-bowl QB for the next 2, 3, maybe 4 years for an up and coming CB all day, every day.

Most average to above average QB's will do well with all the weapons Chiefs have. I am not sold and have never been sold on Smith. Which is why two teams have gotten rid of him. We have tp have a solid team around Smith to win. We do not have that just yet. Depending on what we have up to get Smith, this move is still a big unknown. |

(And no, the way this front office signs old free agents to this team, we aren't getting any comp pick back) We could have had Cousins for 20-25 mil a year, instead of this situation, if we had signed him earlier like a smart front office would have. And when we lose next season like we did this season, how long will Smith really last here? KC was ready to move on from Smith after a 10-6 season! And I don't get why folks are OK with last season and say we were competitive. We were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs by week 15. We were never competitive this season. Anybody think we are going to be better when we are just treading water with moves like this? |

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
This is the bottom line folks, KC is 26-30 as a starter, meaning at best he's a .500 for his career if the ball bounces right, I bet he won't shine with the Jets who I believe he will sign with.

My guess is highest paid player in the NFL at a 27 million per year clip. That's insane

Wow. I don’t know. I guess it comes down to which would have pissed me off more, 27-29 mil per with cousins or last night circus.

Well, let's put it this way: 1) I love having Alex Smith here. Solid starter that can take us all the way with the team around him. Or at the very least win games while we develop a prospect (which we could draft this year, next year or the year after that). 2) But I do think the Chiefs "won" that trade, if I'm a Chiefs fan I'm thinking: -We have our QB of the future -We freed 17M in cap room, and Smith was only here for one more year anyway -We got a rising young corner... And a 3rd, we'll take that! So, not sure I LOVE the trade, but I do love that we solved our QB situation at a reasonable price and can move on!

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
Cousins is going to have several teams after him which will only drive up his price. No way he settles for anything less than being the highest paid player in the NFL.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
I also have a question for those who are 100% positive we got worst at QB: looking at stats, points, wins, and tape, what 12 QBs are without any doubt way better than Alex Smith ?

you will go wanting. Gronk is injured alot now kelce is the best tight end, kareem hunt was top 3 rb in production, tyrek hill can not be covered down field. Smith will break your heart. The long ball stats are an illusion. He completes wobbly duck 30 yard passes that others would have scored tds on. WR waits for smith duck db catches up to hill makes stop. FG instead of TD.Outsiders like you see stats regarding 30 yd completion and think he's good. May GOD have mercy on you guys but smith as your qb will drain your soul. |

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
People are using how we fucked this up years ago as part of their judgment on this trade. That was already done and over with.
In a vacuum, I think the team did the best they could, and they must've known that either Kirk was absolutely leaving or absolutely not accepting any thing less than an insane contract. We resign Zach Brown, draft Denzel Ward and Sony Michel (or similar players) in the 1st 2 rounds, and bring in a good FA LG and lets get after it.
