Swell.
The Detroit deal was 8 years ago, AND he was running the Tampa 2 system under Marinelli who was Kiffin's right hand man in developing it. For the last four years he has been coaching in a 3-4 and gotten good reviews as position coach.

Not giving the guy a pass, but willing to give him a chance. If he pulls a Detroit, then he AND Gruden are gone next year.

I can buy being uninspired. I can buy being skeptical. I can buy being dissapointed we didn't snag someone more proven. But for f*cks sake the weirdly large contingent of people literally freaking the f*ck out need to get a drink or something. How about we give the guy a chance? Worst case scenario is he's awful and we suck...in which case 2016 is a total house cleaning. It's 50-50 either way on that anyways. We could have a tag team of belichek and parcells running our D and the talent alone would sink below average. Nothing is magically changing next year anyways because of that.
Too many of us expect the worst case scenario because that's what this organization tends to do because it makes stupid decisions like this.

And what do you mean by "unproven"? How is Barry "unproven"? Is Rex Grossman "unproven" as a quarterback? Was Malcolm Kelly "unproven" as a WR? Barry has been a defensive coordinator, and he was very much proven: he was proven to suck. If a defense is historically bad (as that Detroit defense was), you need a special combination of bad players and bad coaches. Just having one of the two might give you a bad defense, but not a HISTORICALLY bad defense.

Yup, and let's admit it's the name factor too. Fans kill the team for "star chasing" but when they hire an under the radar type the assumption is he sucks.

Bottom line is without an improvement in talent it won't matter who is running the D.

and if the offense continues to suck, we're going to have the same results.

Funny. We hire dallas' OL coach. Now we hire the dallas defensive coordinator's old assistant to be our DC. Does someone in our front office love the cowpukes, or what? Lol.

What do you mean by "And what do you mean 'unproven'?" I didn't say that. I think your're smart enough to know I meant someone with a more proven track-record of success.

I agree with this although I would change "Too many of us expect" to "Most of us rationally expect".

The problem though is that indeed too many people get simply overwhelmed with indigence/anger/disappointment/whatever because they base their entire reaction on the well-earned expectation of SUCK.

The reality is that the Org has earned this but by sucking for a long time. And the team will suck until...well...it doesn't. Some day they're not going to suck. They're going to start getting it right Maybe it won't be soon or maybe it's today but someday they'll figure this out. At that point not many (no one?) will recognize it though because they, instead of extending the Org yet another undeserved chance, will decry it as stupid and awful. And then they'll be proven wrong.

So I choose to simply chill. Maybe he'll be great or maybe he won't. Maybe he'll be great but won 't have enough talent to succeed, Maybe he'll be awful but have so much talent he can't fail. Who the f knows? I do know that freaking out about it like so many people are doing is useless and super tiresome.

Keim is speculating that he doesn't expect anyone to return, except Olivadotti.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News

Baker put a heavy emphasis on teaching technique, angles, hand fighting, and forcing turnovers during training camp and throughout the year. Ryan Kerrigan consistently praised Baker's influence before, during and after the season. Kerrigan finished the best year of his career with 13.5 sacks(7th in NFL) and 5 forced fumbles(T-1st in NFL). On the other side of the ball, Brian Orakpo had a down year with several injuries, finishing with only .5 sacks and on IR. Orakpo was reportedly not as receptive to Baker's instructions. Rookie Trent Murphy replaced Orakpo and started 8 games, finishing with 2.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.

^^^ this is so disappointing to hear if correct. as a casual fan you can see orakpo never tried to improve or grow. he just wanted to use the same exact move over and over again .. that outside power rush.

i feel like he tried to get to the Qb every play, whether it was a pass or run.

so much potential for orakpo, hes gone the lavar arrignton route.

I was responding as much to what you wrote as to what others have written; which is basically criticizing the critics of the move using the straw man argument that those who are against this move are against it because they're angry that the Redskins did not sign a big name defensive coordinator or one with a stronger track record.

I'm not disappointed in this move because Barry is unproven. While I would have liked a proven coordinator to get this defense to a respectable level until the team puts itself in a strong enough position to make a high-risk-high-reward move, I would have been okay with a guy who hasn't yet had a chance to prove that he can be a good coordinator in this league. That's not he case with Barry. What more evidence could a person possibly need to be convinced that a coordinator is not good? He had a chance. He could not have done worse. I repeat, he could not have done worse. And I don't mean in an "anyone is better than Haslett" argument. I mean, literally, the man could not have done worse. There were 31 other defensive coordinators in the league, all of whom did better than him in both points allowed and yards allowed for two full seasons.

As far suggesting that people take it easy and relax because there's nothing as fans we can do about it... that's great as your prerogative, but do you want this website to be a banner of propaganda, or do you want honest discussion? Because if it's the latter you want, then don't complain about other people complaining. I'm as tired of it as anyone else, but I'm not going to stick my head in the sand and tell myself to be happy with an obviously bone-headed hire because someday we won't suck. You wrote that "this team will suck until...well... it doesn't." You're much more optimistic than I am. After hires like this, I'm more in the camp that "this team will suck until I die." And I'm never going to stop complaining.

Right.

I should have been more specific.

Any notions out there whether Barry's 3 down lineman in the base defense play pass rush as a priority or occupy blockers as a priority?

What changes in philosophy can we expect from last years base strategy?

Probably too early to know without a track record as a coordinator but I'm really interested in the changes to expect. (Probably also speculative without knowing what talent will be here at what positions.)

I really liked the philosophy Wade Phillips followed in his 3-4 schemes. Get the big guys in the QB's face asap.

I haven't seen any articles or interviews addressing it.
