Re: Our next coach??
I still remember screaming at the tv during the last draft when Ellerbe from UGA was still on the board in the late rounds. he is in Balt now.
We need OL help more than anything, i think Rock and the newbie can get it done as a tandem in the backfield. Id like to see us either move Landry to SS or trade him outta here, im tired of seeing him miss the ball as he tried to kill the wr. Im not a big JC guy bit id rather see him than have us go after a big name QB in the 1st round. Im not sold on any of them, maybe it just depends on who our HC is and which direction we are going at the time of the draft. I believe our offense with MK,DT,FD,Moss and Cooley could be very explosive with the right coaching.

Re: Our next coach??
Management must retain Campbell for at least another year, he would give us the best option over a rookie QB or FA. With a rebuilt line I think Campbell can be successful.

I'm not a fan of Betts or Rock, but I did like what they offered when in together. What did Rock have this last weekend when relied upon to carry the load? 15 attempts with only 38yrds? Not the sign of a #1 RB we need. I think Betts does better. If we retain him as the power back, pick up a large FB for goal line situations, and find a scat back to get around the ends we might be fine. Especially putting both Betts and the scat back in together. Other teams would not know where the ball was going...down the middle or outside. |

Philly is tough to run on, especially with our subpar offensive line. Rock is a solid backup. Ganther looks like a very solid backup too.

If DS scraps everything, I can see a new HC coming in and trying to keep JC to see what he can do with him, and picking up a 1st round QB if we are sitting high enough and a good one is available. It just seems new coach's want to get their QB to run their offense, ie; Baltimore, Atlanta, Detroit. and if thats the case I guess it's ok since we would have such a high pick at the end of this yr. If a new HC comes in and even goes 8-8 we will be sitting about middle of the pack, not a place to pick up an elite QB if it's a small group coming out. but they do need to simply have an all call to all OL to visit during summer camp. |

Re: Our next coach??
I believe there will be two franchise tags available per team in an uncapped year
I wish they would make a long-term decision one way or another on Campbell this off-season. Ganther, Rock, and Mason all feel like the same RB to me. Hard working 10-15 touches a game backs. Their contributions are important but I don't see them as being our lead backs ever. They're like Keith Griffin (side note-watching Zorn's press conference and it's amazing how candid he is about what his coaching future is)

Bill Cowher is my first choice. Gruden might be acceptable if Allen comes with him as GM.

he seems to be pushing hard to make snyder look like a fool for not giving him a third year, with all his comments about how long it takes for players to grasp the system and get to the point where they can really play fast and exploit defenses. My biggest fear is something that Thom and Kevin were talking about before the press conference, though - with the 2008 draft class finally contributing and making plays (thomas, davis, kelly, tryon, moore, etc.) it only reinforces the notion that the FO structure that Snyder and Cerrato are running is working, as good talent is being acquired, and the only problem with the team is the coach - zorn. I'm becoming less and less certain that Cerrato will get the axe after the season ends.

You don't often hear coaches talk about how tough it is for them when they know they're on the verge of being fired. It's usually canned, cliche responses. Not from Zorn And maybe the problem with the team is the coach? Or at least that he's tried to take on too much.

Thomas and Kelly might be offering us more than Moss is right now, but that's more of a discredit to what Moss is offering than due to the numerous strides made by both Kelly and Thomas. They are however, both very cheap for the next two years, so I think you could build an offense that focuses on the TEs and slot receivers in the passing game, and start Kelly and Thomas at the receivers and have a respectable offense if the OL is improved. Is there a dynamic slot reciever that we could acquire through the draft? Golden Tate, maybe (even though I don't think he comes out)?

Issues at the safety level of the defense, and on the outside on offense, as well as up front I think are primarily responsible for the team underachieving expectations.
