One option may be Simeon Rice. He has been rumored to be on the trading block due to his huge salary and age. Not sure how that has changed after they drafted Adams

Hmmm. No. So, it actually was a need position. The only debate is whether or not we now have too much invested at safety, a highly valid question.

And by the way, in all likelihood LaRon Landry is going to become one of the most popular Redskins players, quickly. Let's just see how this plays out before we jump to conclusions. What's done is done, and I for one will be looking for people who cry about this pick, only to become huge Landry Lovers once this guy shows us all what he is capable of on the field. I will personally hand out huge plates of crow pie to all those who are guilty of this likely and predictable flip flop.

Ummm, so you are totally misreading what I'm saying. I think LL is a phenomenal prospect at his position. I am thrilled to have him. But when I look at how many teams got better at multiple positions, and when I look at how the Skins had ZERO picks in rounds 2-4, it sickens me when I see how many DL prospects passed us by. While LL may be awesome, we needed DL worse than safety. We better do something after June 1...

I figured when you said, "we HAVE TO address needs, we didn't do that", that you where saying that safety was not a need position, when IMO it was. Correct me if I'm wrong.

DL continues to be a glaring need for this football team. We very well may not be competitive again until that is addressed. In the meantime, we no longer have any need whatsoever at the safety position, that much is now abundantly clear.

It is sometimes impossible to address multiple needs on an NFL football team when you have only one pick on day one of the draft. The frustrating part is that it is of our own doing. Hopefully, the lesson has been learned. Judging by recent indications, it has been. Notice that we have not traded away any more of next years draft picks for "established" players or for more draft picks this year.

I like the drafting of Landry, a lot. If I'm the GM of the Skins I'm looking to plug the holes as best I can on the defensive line this year, and next year I will be hard pressed to pass up on solid DL prospects in the first and second rounds. By that time, we will also have gathered a lot more information on Jason Campbell, who more than any one person will dictate the fortunes of the franchise.

I think what he's saying is, safety was a NEED position, but certainly an upgradable one. We NEED DLINE! We could have used a back up QB too since Brunell is inconsistant and old, and Collins is a nobody, so would Quinn have been a "need" as well?? I say no. A NEED is something we needed immediately and if not filled would still leave us hurting. (ie: DLINE)

I'm glad to hear you say that, cause it seems everyone is drinking this landry cool-aid...and let's face it, it's tasty cool-aid, but we needed to address another position. AT least we know the secondary is not going to be an issue at all this season.

For now anyway...knowing our dline is subpar, we could very well trade a pick away for a DE or something.

I don't think anyone is actually upset that Landry is going to be next to Taylor. I don't think anyone wants the guy to be a bust. I think everyone wants Landry to be a Pro Bowler and will root for him. BUT, I think there are a lot of people who question the emphasis on the secondary at the expense of the D-line. I think that's a reasonable view.

Can I keep a plate of crow pie for those who think our D-line didn't need an upgrade via the 6th pick?

After today I'd say that title belongs to Miami. Ginn at #9 was awful.

I was simply shocked by Miami's decision. On that note, did anyone see Cam Cameron's press conference? The fans were booing. Priceless stuff.

That was a completely dumb pick...especially cause he would not have gone for at least another 10 picks. But you never know. Everyone laughed at the Colts when they took Edgerrin James a while back, and look how he turned out. I personally don't think Ginn will be anything special at all, but you never know.

Re: The Official 2007 Draft Discussion Thread

I would make a good bet Landry starts come September as long as he has a high learning curve when it comes to picking up the game at the pro level. To throw away a #6 pick and automatically say he isn't starting is moronic on Gibbs part. What if we picked up Gaines, Branch, etc? Are you telling me Gibbs wouldn't even think of starting those guys over the sorry ass geezers we now have on the D line? Landry has all the potential to become another impact player for us the same way Champ, Fred, and now Sean were/are for us coming straight from the draft.
