In the 1st half Kyle called a good deal of running plays, which was smart. It got the o-line rolling and Hightower was racking up the yards. The sporadic pass plays didn't give Beck an opportunity to get into rhythm, and since it was his first pro start since 2007 I'm sure he'll need to feel in a rhythm for awhile at least to be effective.

In the 2nd half Kyle went away from the run, which helped Beck out and showed everyone the guy is capable of managing the game and minimizing mistakes and turnovers (compared to Rex) but I think Kyle had the wrong strategy. We should have run the effing ball down their throat and controlled the clock i.e. slowed the game down. It's sort of gotten ridiculous how little opportunity Helu gets.

So yeah my impression is Beck will be good enough to win once he gets comfortable and if we start pounding the rock. I don't trust Kyle to do this. I'm wishing more than anything Mike would take over the offense at this point. It's stupid to say Kyle would have more success if we had the right personnel to fit his scheme, because we don't. We don't have a top tier WR and QB, let along one of either. Pound the rock and stop effing around.

And obviously the defense needs to show up for Beck's performance to matter at all.
Totally agree 100%. The good news is Beck has a lot of room for improvement which Grossman does not have because he's all tapped out imporvement wise. I saw a few things he could improve on like well when in the pocket and throwing the ball he needs to plant his feet so the ball won't get under thrown and almost intercepted. Another thing he could work on is making sure he and his WR are on the same page and not to throw the ball at the opponant for an interception. Oh yea, I remember one thing he did that clearly he can fix and as we all know Grossman could not and thats to not intentionally ground the ball and if he has to he should throw it at his RB's feet. I noticed he really didn't fool the defense with some of the play action roll outs, he should learn to sell that puppy better. He could stand to work on a signiture move for when he makes a TD, you know all the great QB's have one....... Newton kinda acted like he was pulling his shirt open like he was Superman. Aaron Rodgers likes to act like he's showing off his belt. Beck had nothing. and umm, oh I almost forgot..... he could probably stand to work on ball control cause it's two weeks in a row he managed to fumble it. Definitly something for him to work on.

As you said it was totally nice to see Beck play and he's definitly no Rex. That I'm glad of.

People seem to think we have the capacity to jam the ball down the throats of our opponent and there's nothing that can stop us if Kyle would just try it. Why do people think this? They can't just run the ball 55 times a game and hope everything falls into place. These are not The Hogs, and this isn't 1982. If Kyle adopted that mentality, defenses would simply focus on in it and stuff it out. Then we'd all be bitching about how bone-headedly conservative he is. You've got to have the right mix of running and passing. I think we have that. What we lack are the playmakers.
It looks as though we only run 4 or 5 different rushing plays and mostly variations of the stretch, almost never between the tackles. I think every commentator has said the same but it should be obvious nonetheless.

Beck has the arm to be real good. If he will not stare down his receivers then he can be good. Real good.

Re: John Beck Era Begins

My hope for Sunday (vs the Bills) is a change in Kyle's scheme so the game isn't on Beck's shoulders. Pound the rock mercilessly both inside the tackles and around the ends until the defense tires. If we commit to the run and tell the o-line the game is on their shoulders we will control the clock and then open up passing lanes, play-action opportunities especially.

i respectfully disagree. i think beck has a horrid arm.

he cant wing the ball deep down field to stretch the D which I think on PA and rollouts is supposed to be a staple of this offense to compliment and be set up by running the ball religously.

on the short to intermediate routes he sometimes seems to throw a duck or inaccurate ball but sometimes he throws an accurate ball. but on those short to intermediate routes i would like a QB with limited arm strength to excel at the short stuff. he avg on short/intermediate stuff and well below avg on long balls over the top.

i also dont think he can throw/drive the ball on an out route or any route where the flight path of the ball isnt pretty much vertical.

i also dont see where beck has the ability to improve. his arm is what it is. personally i think he has small hands and has a lil trouble getting a good grip on the ball.

it just comes down to kyle calling the right plays at the right times with the understanding of what beck can and cant do. then beck needs to make the throws he should be able to make . .then maybe if we are running the ball well and our D is doing decent, we have a chance to win.

Aren't the Bills somewhat weak against the pass? Or am I mistaken

As long as we don't toss a few pick 6s, we're golden. Statistically, they're giving up a TON of yards on both the run and the pass. They are giving up 24.5 points a game as well.

Re: John Beck Era Begins

Rex is out of the hospital and appears to be ok now. He should be the backup. Doubt Crompton gets called up. Push comes to shove Austin is the emergency QB
