Mariota is awful, but would be a good babysitter. You would like it if we signed a 52 year old Gus Frerotte as long as it meant Sam was out the door. Lol. |

If they wanted a vet, should have just upped the offer to Brissett 8-9 million and signed him. Mariota is trash and quit on ATL like a bitch

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
Marriota was signed to a one-year 6 million dollar deal he's not anything more than a camp body that knows Brian Johnson's system. Howell is young and still on a rookie deal it''d be ridiculous to trade him for anything less than a third, simply because one good day as a backup will increase his value next year. Keeping three quarterbacks on the roster, two on rookie deals and one at six million Is good cap management given how injuries can go with QBs.

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
I don't think you give Mariota $6 million to be a "camp body". That has to be up there with the highest paid backup quarterbacks...

BUT when you've got two other QBs on rookie salaries it makes that cap cost a lot less daunting https://boardroom.tv/highest-paid-backup-qb-2023-nfl/ Sent from my SM-G781U using Tapatalk |

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
Yeah he’s clearly coming in as the backup… I don’t get the “what about Sam” nonsense. We paid JB $8m last year so yeah Mariota’s deal is right in line with backup money.

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
You need a veteran backup, if you're going to have a rookie QB starting day one. I'm fine with that signing for that reason. Hopefully Mariota won't have to take any meaningful snaps.
Sam barely has a full season under his belt. If you're going to have a high draft pick QB, you need a vet back up to help with their upbringing.
