Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

Is there a hard hat avatar, because the sky is literally falling in here 24/7.

Since the season ended, we have improved every single position group, with maybe one exception - OT. I wanted the next TW too, but it didn't fall that way.

This team is so much better than it was 5 months ago.

That's the hope but the field and the execution will be the final judge. As of right now it's easy to still be iffy on the o line protecting a (also as of right now) undersized running rookie qb. It's a scary place to be for fans of this franchise given everything we've all been through

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

cbs sports picked washington as the winner of day 2, not that any instant grades really mean anything, but some people covering this stuff weren't nearly as down on it. They really liked the TE (as a player/prospect) too.

kiper called WC day 2 winners as well, only thinking the WR was a reach.

so for whatever that's worth.

Seems like they went bpa so it is what it is. Just wish there was a day one starting o-linemen in there, but they did grab a te. Only time will tell.

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

Bringing our roster up to playoff caliber is a 2 year project, so bpa choices after round 1 make sense. But protecting JD is an immediate need. I don’t see Bobby Johnson as a guru who can turn our jags into solid performers, so AP/DQ must have a plan, other than going with max protect sets. My guess is they’re targeting someone’s expendable B grade LT

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

Well Peters has certainly stuck to his plan so far.

He stated very early on that he was going to build the roster from the inside out.

So the fact that he has almost completely ignored WR, CB and OT should not be a surprise.

Even the CB and WR picks are slot guys.

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

I may be on my own here, but while I don't love it, I like the draft and love a couple of the picks. JD (duh!), Newton and Sinnott. The rest are solid but not spectacular picks. My suspicion is they're looking at shipping Allen out and he'll be bait for an LT trade, after they couldn't trade up. Some of those that took LT's in rd 1 now have something of a surplus (Jets?) so will be looking to adjust post draft. Given they tried to trade back up into rd 1 but couldn't get a bite, they know full well that LT is a concern. But there's time to put a stop gap in place before camp, and look to the 25 draft to fill that gap long term.

I love love love the Ben Sinnott pick. Some say we over drafted, but when this dude bails out JD on 3rd and long all season, people will lose their minds. By far my favorite non QB pick.

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

They went by their board and grabbed guys they liked. My personal opinion was the TE/WR were reaches, but these are their guys and they did the work and filled 2 important spots.

My hope is Coleman is a tackle as opposed to guard. Ben Standig says the plan is LT which is great.

Everyone needs to remember, 12 tackles were taken in the first and second round. Teams will be cutting some tackles to make room for the new guys. We will have the ability to fill in holes after the draft.

Love it.

I'm enjoying how we talked about how deep we are at DT and then they take a DT with the first pick in the second round.

But if that kid grows up to be the next Allen or Payne (aka similar/better production while also reducing their heavy snap count) it will be entirely worth it.

Phidarian Mathis' and his fat ass should be sweating heavy right now. Time to earn your roster spot my guy.

I forgot to add, they mentioned when he was taken that Allen/Payne played like 80% of the snaps last year. Next highest guy was John Ridgeway with like 30% of the snaps, and everybody else was under 20%. Those numbers aren't sustainable, we need depth that can rotate in/out on the regular.

This and Sainristil are getting rave reviews everywhere, I haven't seen anybody saying an ill word about either yet. People were calling Sainristil the best player on the best defense in college football last year.

Not gonna lie it feels good to have a GM that can pick these guys in the 2nd/3rd. I'm excited already.

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

Great draft so far!

Wish we didn't trade back with the Eagles, who took DeJean, but we got two extra 2nd round picks. I think Coleman has a real shot to start at LT week 1. We needed a TE, so I don't think Sinnot was a reach. His game reminds me of Dallas Clark, Cooley, Heath Miller.
