No I do not like that move. 3 1sts, this team needs as many firsts as we can get to get the level of talent in DC it will take to win a championship.

AND I personally don't think the SKins have any intention of heavily mortgaging future drafts (and I fully support that concept) in order to score a QB. He may not be the perfect guy....or maybe he will, BUT if he is not work out we WILL have future options to take another swing at the plate if our draftee does not work out.
.....other holes to fill as well.

How accurate is that? The cost for moving up the board depends where you're moving up from. Sure, some team will get raped because of their desperation to land Luck but that scenario is the absolute worst case.

Re: 2012 Draft-QB Prospects (Part III)

What really irritates me about this thread is the presumption that Mike will know what to do w/ a rookie QB. Don't talk to me about Cutler because he's not proven jack shit. Elway fell into Mike's lap, along with one of the best defenses in history and elite RB, TE and WR.

And don't overplay Mike's involvement w/ Montana, Young or anyone else. I haven't heard any of those guys give credence to Mike Shanahan as they do other coaches.

The notion Mike can get "his special guy" after the top QB talent is gone and build a championship level team is about as likely as a Ron Paul presidency. It smacks of more egomania, much like the past string of misjudgements that led us to a Rex and Beck dynamic duo more than two years into the new regime.

After exhaustive research into the Moderators Outrageous rumors thread, it has an accuracy factor of 99.083......celsius......more or less.
Point is don't look for the SKins to break the bank for future generations for....anybody.

Well.........you've named about 13 QB's (and left out some) that Mike worked with that had success...some totally excelled. AND you have completely tried to discredit hiim at each event. WHAT exactly DO you give him credit for....Like just the guys that DID NOT work out?

Name one QB we've had thats better than Jay Cutler in the last 20 years?

I think you are being a bit one sided on this arguement. MS has a history of working w/ very good to great QB's.

Re: 2012 Draft-QB Prospects (Part III)

The question is, what will the fans think if a QB isn't selected in the first round or two or three next year? We sure as hell were freaking out when it happened this year.

I was one of the few who didn't freak out about the 'skins not drafting a QB this year. I'm glad we addressed other areas of need and had the patience to wait until the next draft when we would have a better selection of QBs to choose from.

But, I think this season is much different. We HAVE to draft a QB. IF we don't, then I will start questioning the sanity of our front office. However, the FO has done a great job with player acquisitions, so I can't see them NOT drafting a QB unless a Bona fide, young, franchise QB is found in free agency.

Don't know about Montana. But Young has given credit to Shanahan multiple times. And let's not act like Elway didn't have some of his worst years without Shanahan. Plus, who's to say it wasn't Shanahan and the coaches that helped make a guy like Terrell Davis a great running back?

I'm sure a portion of the fan base will find ways to rationalize the decision.
Just like they did this year.

that is the biggest problem in this franchise it has been run far too long by what the fan-base wants in hopes of generating ticket sales. Meaning they always made the flashy move vs. the best move for the club.

No need to sell the farm on a Luck or RG3 if it is just going to handcuff use in other areas.

Look at this way say you have a family four; all drivers. You have $50k to spend on cars for them. Would it make sense to buy a $50k SUV? While 3 other drivers won't have a car or would it be better to buy 4 $12.5k cars so everyone has one?

Re: 2012 Draft-QB Prospects (Part III)

At this point, I have given up on Luck. I want barkley, as he seems to break some trends of the "USC Quarterbacks" and would step in and succeed right away. Id give up a little to trade up for him if need be, but if we pick around 6 or 7 we should be safe.

Does that also mean that we didn't say sign Matt Flynn...or trade for someone?

"Bona fide, young, franchise QB... in free agency"? Who fits that description and at what cost? When I think of the pressure for this organization to field a winning team, it makes me think that they need a more solid prospect than Beck having only Grossman as the fall-back option if the price for getting Luck, RG3, or Barkley is too steep.
