Kyle Shanahan...No actually I really thought Brian Billick was going to be the guy here, though he's not necessarily who I wanted.

I believe I had mostly said Brian Schottenheimer (among some other choices). I know. I know. Someone else who's a no one other than his last name. From what I've observed (get more Jets news and info up here than I do most other teams) I think he's going to be a very good head coach. Has good leadership, organizational skills.

But we got what we got. Let's make the best of it.

A young guy will be all fired up, and eager to win and prove himself. Shanny might just be there to collect a paycheck and get the hell out of town when the shit hits the fan. At this point he is even going to have to throw his son under the bus if he wants to truly retain his position in the not to distant future. I am not so sure he is going to do that. Do you really think Snyder isn't going to notice the empty seats come December if this situation isn't fixed? IF we only win a couple more games this season, but look like a real football team I have no problem keeping him around for his contract, but damn, the team looks in total disarray like it was under Zorn, and you are paying this bum how much? Shanny and co need to be put on the hot seat. They need to be held accountable. This is fast becoming a joke. Strike that, it is a joke, a very bad one.

I believe the number is $7M per...

And nepostism? Clinton Portis and Snyder were all luvy duvy and no one cared.

"OL is ass": The OL is very bad; I don't know that I would go quite that far...

"QB is still adjusting to the speed of the game": That is a VERY polite assessment. Neither QB is very good; one of them has been around long enough for us to conclude that he is highly unlikely to develop into a very good QB; the other one is 30 years old with a half-dozen starts in the league all of which turned into losses. I suspect there is more to the problem here than "adjusting to the speed of the game".

"WRs either suck or are not ready": It could be both options are correct here depending on which WR you are focusing on. One BIG question for this team is Mr. Hankerson. Will he become a real NFL caliber WR or is he another Malcom Kelly/Devin Thomas in the making? Thusfar, he has shown precious little on the field.

Oh and since Clinton Portis and Danny Boy are not in the same family, their relationship cannot be called nepotism. Because Mike and Kyle Shanahan are father and son, nepotism is clearly a concept that is open for discussion.

Re: What's your take on our coaching?

I think the coaches are doing what they can with what they got. Right we don't have a QB, OL, or any wrs that I view as being a legitimate number one. The defense hasn't been looking good for the last 3 weeks. However, they have been on the field a lot because of how ineffective the offense has been. Have the coaches does a good job? I would say no, but they haven't been as bad as many would like to believe. The problem with this team is that we just don't have a lot talent at key positions. The reality of the situation is if we want to be winner we will have to be patient. It's going to take some time to get all the right people here.

Lack of talent is a factor CP, but they are still NFL athletes and should be competitve, not looking like almost a HS team at times.

Chan Gailey came into a total cluster*&^% too, and he has the Bills looking solid. Too bad we got Shanahan instead of Gailey. Shanny turned down the Buffalo job. One has to wonder what would have happened if Snyder went for the less sexy Gailey. As far as the drafting goes, only time will tell. Thus far only Kerrigan is showing any real promise for the 2011 class. Paul and Hankerson probably just need time, but who knows.

Minus maybe Gibbs II, you could have said that about any of Norv's teams or even Schotty's team. Ditto for Spurrier and Zorn. Both of the scrub Qbs we have make Tony Banks look like a Pro Bowler. Don't even get me going with comparing them to Frerotte. Damn, they make him look like a true franchise QB.

What you are saying is true to a large extent, but that has been the case for the better part of two decades now. Even Gibbs, who had a few core guys to rely on, had talent deficiencies to work with, but still found a way to get into the playoffs. I am all for continuity in the coaching, but get a guy who is young and wants to establish something here, not some overhyped veteran coach with an ulterior motive, who really hasn't proven he is all that. I mean come on, one post Elway playoff victory? The guy was offensively loaded in probably the weakest division in the NFL and only one playoff victory? If Gibbs had that O line and that trio of Rbs, we would have been to the SB at least once more.

Just so I understand, you're touting Chan Gailey who basically was chased out of Dallas like he had the plague.......AND you are wishing.....him to replace Two time SB winning Coach Mike Shanahan?

Gibbs had a fairly decent roster. Portis, Jansen, Samuels, Marcus Washington, Shawn Springs, Randy Thomas, Sean Taylor, Santana Moss...

Our roster, as it stands now, is worse than that.

Last time I checked, Gailey is not responsible for personnel. Buddy Nix is.

Shanahan suffers from a conflict of interest between his two jobs of HC and VP. Head coaches want to win every year. GMs are more concerned about their long-term future. Shanahan is trying to do both, and hence guys like Stallworth make the roster and the trade for McNabb.

I have a lot of respect for both coaches, Gailey and M. Shanahan, but I wouldn't tout the "two time SB winning Coach Mike Shanahan". We don't have the same two time SB winning coach Shanahan. Shanahan had John Elway and after his two SB wins, his team looked very ordinary and at times sub-par.

I was also among the legion of fans who thought "3 time Super Bowl winning coach Joe Gibbs" was going to take us back to the SB the second time he was here. Much love for Coach Gibbs, but he was not the same guy the second time around, and how could he be. I think Shanahan is in the same boat. Gibbs I had a very talented core of players to work with. Gibbs II, not so much. I do think that Gibbs II had a more talented team that Shanahan has right now. And i still will always hold on to the belief that if Gibbs had not brought in Al Saunders, he would have gotten steady reliable play from Mark Brunell for another couple of years and his "old school joe gibbs" offense was actually beating people in 2005.

Shanahan deserves till the end of the season to see if he can show us any promise. Last year was not good at all, this year is looking like it might be worse. If the team continues to struggle, I say let Mike Shanahan call the plays himself, see if it straightens out. If the team loses the rest of their games, then I think both Shanahans should resign or be fired....

If you want to be fair about it take a few minutes and review MS record. You will find....many Championship teams and 3 SB's as he served as HC and OC, position coach on some others.
Post Elway, he had I think one losing season and numerous post season appearances.
Additionally, how many SB's did Elway win prior to MS's arrival?
I would agree to some degree that as at this point we cannot be sure what MS we have. Perhaps he will eclipse all previous records before he is done...perhaps not.
AND that leads me to my last point.
Suggesting that the Shanahans should be in jeopardy possibly after this season is the same kind of knee jerk move we have relentlessly crucified Dan for lo' these many years

Re: What's your take on our coaching?

I think as Redskins fans we've been spoiled by Joe Gibbs. Because really how many NFL coaches even win more than one Super Bowl, let alone just one. And on top of that, how many win these Super Bowls without a good QB?
