Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Brissett is a good backup but he isn’t the future.
Howell or a Rookie needs to start. Even if they shit the bed they get valuable playing time and we have better draft position next year. Brissett starting is the worst case scenario here. 8-9 wins seasons are the enemy at this point. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Heinicke had a 44.4 QBR last year. Brissett was miles ahead of him at 60.00.
Brissett was 8th overall, Heinicke would have been 25th if included in this list. https://www.espn.com/nfl/qbr Overall rating, Heinicke was slightly ahead at 89.6 versus 88.9. Not to mention, Brissett has a way better arm. I'd take Brissett over Heinicke every day, and twice on Monday's, Thursday's, and Sunday's.

Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Justify with all the stats you want. Ask browns fans how they feel. Good effort, just not a good quarterback, not a playmaker, couldn't really win games
Guy was 4-7 before he got hurt. It's a team game, sure, and the browns had enough talent to be just that. Hope he proves to be a good backup and nothing more..... Cuz if he is starting we're screwed

brisset is way ahead in kinds of categories. 8-13 vs ~23-25 we have good receivers, so getting a guy with touch that actually gets DPIs called is probably a big upgrade. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Love the Brissett signing. Not only a very good back up. But also legit competition in camp for Howell. Yes if Howell is anything we hope he is he should win the job, but if he doesn't it wouldn't be a massive shocker to see Brissett start. Wouldn't be a good news cuz we would still be looking for our QB, but wouldn't shock me.

Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
We currently have Howell, Fromm on roster … we can’t go into season with that now can we?? So I don’t see any issue at all with Brissett signing … nobody is saying he is the franchise guy …. hopefully Howell is the starter but if he can’t beat out Brissett then we will still be searching ..

Heinicke has an extremely limited ceiling, mainly because he cannot throw the ball down the field. We have some burners at wr and he could not air the ball out. That is a huge problem. This isn’t Turners offense it is EB’s and you absolutely need to be able to throw the ball down the field. He will be our backup and hopefully he doesn’t see the field, but if he does he simply brings more to the table than Heinicke. |

Seriously not sure why people are upset about Brissett being our backup? What was everyone expecting? Brady?

No, he's not a starter unless he makes a giant leap this off-season lol. No issue with him being a backup, issue with him even sniffing the qb1 role after watching every game he played last year

Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread

Yesterday Sam was QB-1. Today Sam is QB-1. Is Brissett better than Jake Fromm? A backup is always an injury away and until today that guy was Taylor Heinicke or Jake Fromm? Lol. It is a solid depth move at quarterback. If he becomes the starter it’s because he understands EB’s system and earns it. Like Rocnrik said if Brissett wins the job or inherits it than Sam isn’t the guy either and we draft someone next year when the class is arguably better. I just don’t understand what the problem is with Brissett. Who did everyone want here this morning??? |

Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
I think I'm even more worried about the coaching staffs massive blunders and somehow brissett starts. Like Wentz. And we lose games fast. Then he starts again later in the year for a shortsighted (my opinion) reason and we lose an important game, fast.
Brisset is not a starting option I have no problem him being here but not to be looked at as a potential starter, call the season at that point like the browns season last year. I saw it, every game 🤷 I can't give you stats on why but unless he drastically improves, or fits here, we don't win games, see ya next season.

Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Hell, howell could blow it, but at least he got his shot. Rather go down swinging with him than watch brisset this year. Maybe he proves me wrong and the ones not in this line of thinking please feel free to line up with all the I told ya so's in the book. That's totally fine.
The guy just doesn't have what it takes to win games. I can't sit here with watching him all of last year and say much of anything positive besides hey his arm is stronger than TH. The list ends there.

Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
I have zero problem with the Brissett signing. I am not sure who everyone (who is complaining) thought we were going to get. He was definitely the best backup / 'bring in a veteran for competition' type quarterback who wasn't going to cost the farm.
This is good, and EB is making this decision, not RR. Which means he likely fits the offense EB plans to run here. Nothing wrong with competition. If Howell can't win the job, he was never the guy anyway. I'd rather find that out before the games count, and have a capable guy like Brissett on the roster to put out there if that's the case. If Howell wins the competition, hopefully we're on to something. |
