Re: Coronavirus (non political)

A 5 year old from Elkridge Elementary has tested positive. Maybe 10 miles or so away from me.

If she has to be hospitalized, Ive decided I will then put me and my 8 year old on pretty strict home confinement.

You should have all ready done that. Right now its me and one other worker in our office. She stays in her office and me in my office. We wash hands and everything down often. Doors are locked and no customer are allowed in. I leave here and go home. I don't isolate in my house with plenty of things to do around the house outside. Me and and the neighbors talk but we keep plenty of distance. We are a family of three and when someone comes in they wash their hands and take their temperature. Takes about 1 minute of our time. If I have to go to the bank or get gas I have hand wipes and clean my hands.

Idk what Im doing right now. Im going to grocery stores. Got to-go lunch from Gustos a few hours ago. Still allowing clients to come in and shaking hands. Kid had a sleep over 2 nights ago. We usually have about 8 staff, now its our core four-five.

Today is the first day I started thinking hard about shutting it down. I guess Im waiting for the government to tell me to stay home ... like a fucking idiot.

Gov Hogan for Maryland has been ahead of the curve in cancelling school, bars etc.

Apologies for the repetitive posts today ... im just waffling like an idiot.

edit

what is everyone else doing and what part of the country are you from? are you going to work or teleworking? togo food or only food from the house? do you go to the grocery store every 3 days?

Re: Coronavirus (non political)

I'm still working in my office but we're at half staff, the other half is teleworking. Right now you can only telework if you have kids at home or an underlying health condition. I think we should all be at home, not sure why some Federal agencies are so damn stubborn.

Have to wonder where we'd be if everything started shutting down a month ago. Hopefully some valuable lessons are being learned from all this so the next time around we can prevent needless deaths and keep the economy from taking such a beating.

Re: Coronavirus (non political)

My girlfriend suggested I order more medication and not just wait till I have a week's supply like I normally do. It never dawned on me to do that. So far today calling Walmart pharmacy gets a "system problem" message saying they cannot take calls. I doubt it is a glitch. Anyway a heads up to anyone who needs meds on a monthly basis, people might be hoarding those also.

Re: Coronavirus (non political)

I’m telecommuting most days, some days I have to go into the office to run meetings, hoping for fewer of those because I work at a hospital.

Our area is generally taking this extremely seriously, Philadelphia and western suburbs.

At the hospital we are preparing for medical Armageddon. We’ve doubled the number of ventilators and biPap machines, and we’ve stopped admitting patients for elective surgeries.

There’s a delay from the time you contract this thing to when symptoms show up. So the explosive growth in cases is probably coming from the days just prior to when we started social distancing. Two weeks from now the curve should begin to flatten. But I don’t think the poor urban areas will flatten much, those folks just don’t have the resources to be able to stay away from others well enough. Stocking up isn’t an option when you’ve got no money.

This will be an extremely trying time in our lives, I wish you all the best as you seek to cope with it.

The craziest part is there are thousands (at the minimum) that have it with zero symptoms. But those thousands can pass it down the line to people that can die from it. I literally feel the same I always do, but I might have it. No one knows.

This is just some never before seen shit (at least since my birth year in 1983).

Maybe a handful of people old enough to remember the Spanish flu of 1918-1920 that still have some mental capacity have seen worse. My fear is how bad things will get before they get better. A lot of things the government is doing or isn't doing is going to cause collateral damage. And we all know a lot of the things they are doing will backfire.

That's why you treat everyone like they have the virus.

Re: Coronavirus (non political)

I'm on remote status for a while it seems, especially with NYS policies now.

Schneed I 2nd that, we have never seen anything like this (I haven't atleast) , we can all learn and grow from this virus.

Re: Coronavirus (non political)

The US numbers are about to skyrocket with expanded testing. I saw one report, sorry no link, that it will be about 2 more weeks before we have any clue how the strategies have been working. All I know is that every time I go to see my mom, who is by herself, I worry I will somehow have contracted it and give it to her.
