It is interesting that Peters went bpa for that pick but Sainristil had a consensus value of 60 but was taken with the 50th pick and Sinnot taken at 53 but a consensus ranking in the 80s. Clearly he was drafting for something other than bpa. I can see the difference between 50 and 60 being negligible however.

I think that just shows you how different actual NFL teams' evaluations are compared to all the rankings published prior to the drafts. A big factor is obviously fit for the team too, which none of those rankings take into account.

Look, he is a rookie, and coaches are always slow to play rookies. Especially over veterans.

And its not uncommon for defensive coaches to alternate guys around on the DL. But I really think Newton will be an all-pro caliber DT before his career is over.

He fell to the second round because he played the second half of the season with a broken foot and missed the combine. Also he is slightly shorter and slightly smaller reach than the ideal.

Honestly, I'm not worried about those things, I think his elite explosiveness, speed and drive will more than make up for those things.

He was literally the best DT in the draft, how he made it to the second round is mystifying to me. You guys got a great pick.

There were better corners and guards available.

I guess they didn't see it that way.

They will. There were better wr’s available too. That last pick was a huge reach. I don’t think these players are bad but they are taking them too soon. Corner, G, WR. All head scratchers

The Corner was rated slightly higher than we took him so not a reach. Some assessments have Sinnot in the 50 range some have him lower - so I'll say a minor reach.

The draft reads to me... like it will be a pass heavy, RPO and quick read game like 2012. Pray for JD5.

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

I think the one big error they made on day 2 was Drafting Sinnot where they did. Given no other TE was picked until a full round later I think Sinnot could have been picked up at pick 67 which would have allowed us to get a better tackle at pick 53.

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

As always only time will tell but as things stand now I feel like there were better players available at at least 3 of the picks today who also filled more pressing needs. Cooper Dejean should be a commander. I hated that trade. And they BETTER upgrade at OT in the next round of FA or they better play their backup qb this year.

^^^ agreed its not looking good at all for the o line.. everyone holding their collective breath right now.. putting down the peters Kool aid for a few months til it all either does or doesn't come to fruition. I like the outlook for the defense, and the offense minus the o line. It's starting to look like fools gold....... ..... again.

But like you said time will tell. We just cannot fucking have a o line like last year and there just has NOT been a significant upgrade or even CHANCE at a real change yet.

We probably won't have an O-Line as bad as last year when we had only one capable player (Cosmi) now we have three (hopefully) so it should be moderately better.

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

I would have probably not done the trade and taken a CB and OT, but until we see them play (and the people they passed on), I'm not going to be super harsh. I feel like they do need to do something at OT (trade or sign someone else's cut). Not a huge fan of instant draft grades. Our roster was bad; if our 2's aren't contributing meaningfully at some point this year, then this draft was a miss.

(for awareness, after the top of the 2nd I haven't watched much prospect tape this year)

Is there a hard hat avatar, because the sky is literally falling in here 24/7.

Since the season ended, we have improved every single position group, with maybe one exception - OT. I wanted the next TW too, but it didn't fall that way.

This team is so much better than it was 5 months ago.

That's the hope but the field and the execution will be the final judge. As of right now it's easy to still be iffy on the o line protecting a (also as of right now) undersized running rookie qb. It's a scary place to be for fans of this franchise given everything we've all been through
