I had no idea Italy was a 3rd world country.

They have a significant older population and they tend to live at home with family vs going into a nursing home.

They have 45,000 fewer cases then China, but the same basic number of deaths (CH-3237 to IT-2978)

Italy's cases are 591 per 1million population
the US cases right now are 23 per 1million.

Granted the US cases per million will jump in the next week as the test kits get into NYC and other outbreak sites. But Italy's is out of control even in relationship to Spain(298), Germany (143), France(140), S Korea (164)

I think best practice goes to Germany right now with 28 deaths but only 2 serious/critical out of 11,859 active cases.
I'm extremely skeptical of all of these figures being reported. China isn't trustworthy at all, I think it's quite likely they're suppressing the real figures to make themselves look better.

And then we can't be certain Germany is documenting things the same way Italy is, South Korea is, we are, etc.

Went to the post office to drop off a priority express envelope. I was shocked to see business as usual. I figured the clerks would all be in hazmat suits by now.

Beautiful place with old traditions but it is pretty much a third world country. My son-in-law is stationed in Sicily and is stuck in lock down. My daughter was there for a month and loved the place. Just talked to him this morning and he has been stuck in his apartment for almost two weeks. My daughter was suppose to go back in April but thats not happening.

Exactly. The way they covered, lied, suppressed and treated this event will go down as a 9/11, WW2 type event.

China is an absolute disgrace and the country should be punished excessively when this is over.

Re: Coronavirus (non political)

Does anyone know anyone who is showing objective signs of coronavirus?

So far, at least for my small world, its like Coronavirus only exists on the internet when I read about it. Its weird. Schools are closed, courts are closed, restaurants closed, sports and theater cancelled, Im running out of TP and cant find any anywhere ... I have all these external indicators that things are not normal right now .... but they are. At least for me. I go to work, eat lunch, come home, make the kid some dinner, put her down, watch TV, go to bed.

It hasnt effected me. I dont know anyone who has a fever. I dont see anyone looking sick in public.

We as a society are doing all these previously unthought of things like cancel the NCAA Tourney and its all anyone talks about .... but where is it?

Is it coming? And if so, just was is the "it"? No food? People dying outside hospitals? Forced quarantine?

Perhaps Im just anxious and this is the calm before the storm.

I just want to find some damn TP at this point.

January 23, 2020 ... China started building 2 emergency hospitals.

At that point, the whole world was on notice and if someone or a country downplayed it, their delay to act or unwillingness to appreciate the potential danger is on them, imo.

I figured they would at least be wearing gloves, but they weren't. I believe all shippers are going to get extremely busy as more people shop online. Pretty sure the system will be burdened to the point of collapse.

Not wanting sick workers showing up at the Amazon warehouse where my girlfriend's son works they have suspended their attendance policies. Problem is orders are also increasing. As we all know there are plenty of people that if allowed would take a lot more days off. Now the people showing up for work are getting worked to death and morale is bad.

You know this was going on as far back as November? You know if they contacted WHO and their neighbors immediately up to 95% of the spread would not have happened.

Keep carrying their water...

No idea where you live but here in Central Virginia the mom & pop country stores have decent supplies of things that the big chain stores don't. Some aren't all that far off the beaten path. The closest one to me did finally run out of TP yesterday.

Re: Coronavirus (non political)

Our mail lady comes in here everyday and is wearing no protection.

On a side note I just talked to my daughter and Washington (the state) will pay her (a nurse) $5,000 a week if she will fly there and work. I told her no but she is looking at her options.

Wearing gloves can actually increase your risk of catching coronavirus
