Re: The Official 2010 Training Camp Thread

How have all the Rookies been performing?

Perry Riley, Terrence Austin, Dennis Morris, Cook and Capers? (we all know Trent's been doing just fine.)

Or maybe he's just is what he is, a 3rd stringer at best

Keep in mind, Hawaii's offensive line was awful in the Sugar Bowl, and the reason why the game was such a blow out. Colt had no time to even drop back, and look down field. I guarantee that if Hawaii had pretty much any BCS teams OL, the game would have not been nearly as lopsided as it was. You can't blame one player for the loss of a blowout game like that. Hawaii had no idea what hit them.

No No No No!!! He needs to play man!!

Bench McNabb, play the Colt! Only then will his "it" factor be allowed to save us!!

If he fails - it's Jason Campbell's fault!
(or maybe Patrick Ramsey's)

Why stop at Ramsey? Maybe it's Danny Wuerffel's fault or maybe Shane Matthews?

Tryon's not really a breakout player, IMO, though he fits the formula of "good advanced coverage numbers" and "young". Left in his role from last year (nickel), he can keep posting good numbers year after year, as long as he's given a steady stream of zone responsibility.

The idea that he could replace Rogers at LCB as soon as this year is pretty far-fetched. He's a poor man's DeAngelo Hall, and considering what we're already paying the real DeAngelo Hall, his only chance of breaking into the starting lineup is injury. This, and of course, the Blache scheme is dead, so he's starting from scratch.

He's probably right around his max potential already, and can stay there for three to four more years, or a year or two into his next contract (which means I wouldn't really go out of my way to extend him past 2011).

I can vouch for the academically supported idea that some players are going to underperform (consistently) in low-intensity environments. Some players just need game speed to have those coverages make any sense.

Of course, I've seen Colt in the preseason, and, there's just not a whole lot there.

Also very impressed to hear about Zoe taking first team reps away from Carter. I can't believe he was playing defensive tackle when we first brought him in and now he's competing for the starting outside linebacker job.
Lorenzo Alexander once covered Brian Westbrook on a pass thrown 35 yards downfield.

I mean, aside from the fact that he strained his hammy on the play and missed the rest of the year (just the SF game), versatility has always been a major strength of his.

Re: The Official 2010 Training Camp Thread

I haven't seen any mention of Jarmon in the thread, unless I missed it somehow. Read this on redskins.com this morning and thought it was interesting.

"- 9:00 a.m. ET

Jeremy Jarmon

Watching the defensive linemen running through drills, I noticed that Jeremy Jarmon is working with them.

He was listed as a linebacker heading into training camp, but he has bulked up to 286 pounds and is now listed as a defensive end.

Jarmon could develop into a swing player. He has versatility and could slide inside to play nose tackle in pass rushing situations."

He's got to be disappointed, though. He's went from having the best year of his career (thanks largely to Haynesworth) to being a backup in a defense that doesnt fit him well. I admire his class in keeping his mouth shut and not becoming a problem, but i also feel pretty bad for the guy.
Word. I don't understand why they didn't work together to find him a great team still running the 4-3? He's such a physical phenom I think another 4 yrs of solid play is likely. Carter deserves to start (at 4-3 DE) and we should have gotten some value. Not the best work by our FO this yr.

I'm pretty sure Carter will see his fair share of plays. Oftentimes, they rotate players in for certain packages.

AC is going to get plenty of reps in this D. I wouldn't worry about him or his feelings.

Wouldn't be all that surprised if neither makes the final roster, and they just go with Chunky and Sexy. I also wouldn't be surprised if the JaMarcus Junkies get an opportunity.

I've heard nothing but good things about FD all spring/summer

Zoe's an inspiration to all those players in high school/college who are borderline NFL talents

I'd say with the JaMarcus Junkies problems following the law and his pending legal matters he probably doesn't have much of a shot. I could see them going with Chunky and Sexy, but what happens when Chunky and Sexy go down? They could trade for an established vet like the Dandy Delhomme, if he burns out in Cleveland after about 4 starts, or we could look to bring in somebody currently on the streets/UFL, like a Culpepper Coalition.
