Re: The Workplace

Love this thread! Sounds like the large majority of us are office workers. I work in I.T. for a mental health/substance abuse agency in southern VA. Most of the time, us I.T. people get labeled as the nerds with no personality, but I am actually the one who has the best personality in the whole department. That doesn't help much, because all of our employees come to me when they have computer issues. They are afraid to go to anybody else.

My biggest pet peeve at work is when someone will call me and will say that they are having issues with their computer and will ask me to come and look at it. They won't give me any specifics. When I try to ask them what is going on, they act like they don't know how to explain it. Nine times out of ten, it is usually an extremely simple fix such as rebooting the computer, but they insist on me getting up from my desk to walk to their office just to find out it was really nothing....something I could have fixed over the phone.

Another pet peeve of mine is when someone calls me asking about a computer issue and I tell them I'll look at it after a meeting that I am currently heading to, and when I walk past their office, they're yelling at me to come in and help them with their computer issues...even though just a minute ago I told them over the phone that I was heading to a meeting and that I would check on it after the meeting.

And finally, another pet peeve of mine. My workplace froze all the raises, unless you're one of the favorites. I haven't had a raise in nearly six years, yet they can afford to install brand new carpet that looks exactly the same as the existing carpet and not any better than what was on the floor. That cost the company over $100,000, yet they can't give me a 3% raise.....

Enjoy Windows Media Center on Xbox 360 with your Music, Pictures, Live and Recorded TV, and Online Media

A Windows Vista or Windows 7 Media Center PC includes all the software to use your Xbox 360 as an Extender. You do not need to download additional software. Use the following steps to connect your Xbox 360.

You didn't put her on the spot and ask her what that means?

My experience is that you have to set firm boundaries.

On one hand, people begin to think of your home as your workplace only and will bother you at odd times (work-related calls at 6 AM, 10 PM, Sundays, etc. at home).

On the other hand, some non-work folks may not get that your home is your work place, and feel like they can drop by any time and hang out because you are home. Then it becomes hard to be productive.

Re: The Workplace

Well, file me under "I cant complain about my boss".
I'm a huge Rush fan and he knows it.
Yesterday he drops this on my desk and says, dont say I never gave you anything.
Its a hardbound edition of all the Rush tour books from 1977 to 2004.
He wouldn't say where he got it or what it cost.

My wife works from home 2 or 3 days a week sometimes though I worry about her. Like now she gets really bent out of shape if a parent comes in parks in one of our assigned spots to pick up there kid from the school bus. I guess little stuff after time gets to you. Much like Jack when he worked at the Stanley.

On the same hand someone throw away a big print job in my personal cube waste basket when I was at the gym. Kind of pissed me off but it really doesn't affect me.

Basically no human was placed on this earth to do paperwork so eventually it drives you crazy.
