Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)

Horrible trade and horrible contract. There were a good bit of us not happy with either. With Cousins leaving and our D bottom 3 in the league, I thought we should have accepted the reality we didnt have a winning roster and embrace a true rebuild for a few seasons.

But Bruce had to try and save his job by continually making DS think we were close.

Alex Smith got handed 71M in guarantees from Bruce.

But he low balled a better home grown option in Cousins. Cousins ended up getting 84M guaranteed.

Dnag yalll .... why are we opening these old wounds? I have almost completely forgotten how bad we screwed the Cousins-Smith thing.

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)

Cousins made it clear for 2+ years that he wasn't staying here for any amount of money. He fleeced the team with multiple franchise tags that prevented us from building around him. The "nice guy" was really all about himself and the money, not helping the team win. He thought the grass would be greener on the other side...now Vikings fans hate him too because he's just not worth what he's being paid.

Kirk has no business being anywhere near the highest-paid QB in the league, never did.

Smith was the best option at the time, no regrets here. Hitting on a draft pick, even in Round 1, is a crapshoot.

I think Haskins will have a good second year.

He didn't want to play for Bruce anymore and you can't blame him..Also he just won the Vikings a huge road playoff win with the throw of his career in clutch. Have to give him props

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)

And lastly - I've heard from multiple people with WFT that Alex Smith looks very good. This is a real competition. Buckle up.

I think he's still got a long way to go before we're talking about a real competition. It's Dwayne's job.

Agreed. It's an amazing come back story, but Dwayne's the future of this team.

If Smith's able to compete for this job, then try to get some value back and trade him IMO. Even if you have to take part of the cap hit.

They had just reached a point after two weeks where they need to see how he handles being in a pocket when the play goes off-schedule and when he has to react. It could still be some time before they put him in such a situation, but until then any talk about him seriously challenging for the starting job will be muted. -- John Keim

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)

First, I have great respect for Alex Smith. He has great integrity, dedication, and courage.

Second, I fear for his safety and I hope he'll decide to move on from NFL football. He has a young family to consider and there are many other career paths he could take to achieve success and happiness.

Best wishes and good luck, Alex, whatever you decide.
