I don't pray, but I hope for a speedy recovery.

It really didn't. It looked liked he was concussed getting up with a little wobbly. Didn't expect him to just drop there on the spot. Hope the best for this guy.

Carr was given a 100 million dollar contract. He was done anything but wrong. I have no issues with the Raiders protecting their self interest by making sure he didn't get hurt the final games resulting them paying 40mil. It's a business decision. Get the fuck over it.

Doesn't have to be, I went through this in College in 1974. Our Capt who was one of our DB's had just made a text book tackle, wrapped up and took the receiver to the ground. He got up we came off the field and we were sitting on the bench he started to look like a ghost he got so pale. On the way to the Hospital he had 4 heart attacks and died on the operating table . During the play he had gotten a knee to the chest and it ruptured his spleen.
At the time we didn't know any of this had happen and on another play in the same game a player(a DT) had a burst aneurysm, He made it to the Hospital and through the operation but he was never the same. Our season was canceled and I never played tackle football again.

Re: Around the NFL Week 17

News confirming he had a cardiac arrest (heart stopped), which given it was a helmet to the chest, isn't a total surprise. Unless he had an undiagnosed condition, sounds like a fluke conflagration of events.

Hope he makes a full recovery.

Re: Around the NFL Week 17

Was scared to look at the news this morning. I have no idea if he's out of the woods yet (in terms of surviving), but I assume it has to he a really good sign he made it thru the night.

I wasn't watching, but I guess that knee just hit him at the perfect time in the perfect spot to cause this. What a scary and shitty situation for him, his friends, family, and teammates.

Re: Around the NFL Week 17

There are so many players whose bodies and minds are ruined from this game. Seau, Duerson, so many lives ruined. Those ones died. There are hundreds others who cant walk, cant think, cant move. It is such a violent game. My brother in law from England was here recently talking about how they don’t wear pads in rugby I was like if football players wore shorts and shirts someone would be dead every time they played. They are the fastest, strongest, biggest athletes in the world hitting each other at full speed. I really hope to hear good news about Hamlin today. I could honestly care less about football at this point. I realize they sign up for it. I realize they make enough money to set their families up for life. But I could care less if they announce today that we signed Wentz and Rivera to 30 year contracts. It is a game and an extremely violent one. They need to reinvent the entire uniform again with some sort of flexible armor in it. I have never been less interested in the game as i am right now.

I read from some reporter that he wasn’t breathing on his own. He was intubated. Had a pulse but not breathing on his own. Hope that report is wrong but man.
All ive done since we lost is new simulated mock drafts. It was exciting because we had the 14th pick. I can’t even care about that.

Not necessarily talking about this incident specifically, but I think a lot of times they put people in intubation so that their bodies processes are controlled and have time to recover in a more "relaxed" state for lack of a better word.

I hope that's the case here.

There are leagues where there's no pads, check the web. It looks brutal but they actively avoid head to head contract which is the prime cause of such devastating health issues post retirement. There's a good argument that helmets make players feel over confident about their safety when tackling that they take risks they wouldn't otherwise. Can never see the NFL reverting to the pre helmet days, but the stupid risk taking is something that can be coached out of kids. The game can be safer and no less exciting if that is coached to players.

Good to see everyone coming together from all backgrounds across the country to support this young man and his family.
