Re: Washington Free Agents Signings

Also, from PFF:

WINNERS

Washington Commanders

"In a free-agent class that lacked top-tier talent, an innovative approach was needed to acquire elite playmakers. Commanders general manager Adam Peters did just that, completing two marquee trades for Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil — two of the highest-graded players to change teams this offseason.

Samuel, a dominant force after the catch, will immediately elevate an offense led by 2024 Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, known for his screen-heavy scheme, is an ideal coach to maximize Samuel’s versatility. Over his six NFL seasons, Samuel has earned a stellar 97.5 PFF receiving grade on targeted screens, making him the perfect fit to help take Washington’s offense to the next level.

Tunsil’s departure from Houston came as a surprise, but he remains one of the NFL’s elite pass protectors. In 2024, he earned an 88.6 PFF pass-blocking grade — fourth among eligible tackles — while allowing just two sacks and a 3.0% pressure rate. His veteran presence on the Commanders' offensive line will be crucial in helping Jayden Daniels continue his development as the league’s next great quarterback."

It's too soon to evaluate whether or not these moves will have any meaningful impact. And obviously there is A LOT of time left before we even play a game, so there's more moves to be made. If they don't make it to the Superbowl, though, they didn't improve much, right? It's a high bar they set...

Commanders resign Igbinoghene: Source:

Quote:
Commanders cornerback Noah Igbinoghene will remain in Washington for another year.

Igbinoghene re-signed with the Commanders today.

The signing comes a year after Igbinoghene signed a one-year deal with the Commanders last season. That allowed him to continue playing for Commanders head coach Dan Quinn, who was the defensive coordinator in Dallas in 2023 when Igbinoghene was playing for the Cowboys.

Zaccheus to the Bears. Wish him well. He had clutch catches throughout the year.

Glad we re-signed Igbinoghene, pity about Zaccheus. I think he played better in season than D Brown. Is N Brown healthy now, as there's been no word on him?

The recurring theme of the interviews I listened to was how much everyone enjoyed being here and the power of the locker room - the fun and the camaraderie. That is a true culture shift

New Lions CB DJ Reed said his free agency decision was down to Detroit and Washington.

Yeah because of business. Not because they didn’t make the cut. The new additions are without a doubt an upgrade on paper. That is enough for me in March.

I mean, when healthy Detroit has the better defense by a long ways .. and wondering he thought we were a bit of a fluke last year... or they simply offered more $ / better terms.. even tho his deal was a steal

Time will tell but here's to him choosing wrong one!

Would have been good but I really like Jones. Hard hitter, will hold the outside. Some of these guys we’re picking up have middle of the pack grades but played on an ass defense so I wonder when surrounded by stronger support will they perform better. At the price point Jones is a nice pickup.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, as long as there are no weak links, i.e. St Juste. So far I see some immediate improvements at key starting positions, i.e. LT, LG (by moving Coleman inside), WR and CB. Can't see what more we can get out of FA at this stage, that isn't better addressed by the draft, excepting more depth.

I'd like to see us sign Azeez Ojulari to a multi-year contract as a pass rushing specialist. He has great take-off, speed, and bend to pressure the QB. He's a young player and he has the time to further develop his skills in every facet of his game.

If we can get a difference maker on the edge in this draft it is all systems go. Amazing what someone can do so quickly and efficiently after they were left with the disastrous roster built by and coached by Ron Rivera.

Re: Washington Free Agents Signings

Exactly where I see the genius of AP. There's criticism re Lattimore (unjust even if he doesn't get back to Pro Bowl level), moving Allen (past his best) and Kinlaw (unknown at this point), which I think is harsh at this point at least. But even if all 3 prove bad choices, those pointing fingers are forgetting the right moves in FA and the draft last year that all but instantly rebuilt a shoddy roster. If his moves were equated to a QB performance, I'd say his completion % was up in the 80's.
