Re: 2012 Redskins Schedule Released Today
If wanted to, you could pretty much figure our schedule out for the next 20 years.
Each year all the teams of a division play all the teams of two other divisions - one in the AFC and one the NFC (so we will play every team in the league at least once every three years). It simply rotates by division. The only two teams on our schedule that aren't predetermined are the NFC teams from the "off" divisions. Those teams are determined by finish (firsts play firsts, seconds play seconds, etc.). So for example, next year since we play the entire NFC Central, we will play the first place finishers in the NFC West and NFC South.

Re: 2012 Redskins Schedule Released Today
I'm not exactly sure how the home and away is scheduled other than because you play all 4 teams in the other 2 divisions, you will play 2 of them at home and two away in each case. Then obviously for the two teams that finished in the same place as you (say 1st place teams) you get one at home and one away. That's 5 home and 5 away = 10 games, the other 6 games are the 3 homes againts your division and 3 aways = 16 games.

Re: 2012 Redskins Schedule Released Today
Just alternates. Look at the schedule. We played GB and Minn home in 2010, will play them away in 2013 and home again in 2016. Same for AFC but that is on an eight year rotation (4 Divisions to play as opposed to 3) - so this year we play Baltimore and Cinci home and, in 2016, we will play them away, then home again in 2020.
The "off" Division rivals rotate home and away in the years we do not play their division. This year we play the similarly ranked NFC West team (Rams) away, next year we will play the similarly ranked NFC West team at home (Niners on Monday night!), and the following year we play the entire division with Arizona and St. Louis home. (Away, Home, Division, Away, Home, Division).

Re: 2012 Redskins Schedule Released Today
So, in the course of 7 years, a fan can see every team in the league play in the home stadium at least once.
Also, I was wrong in my earlier post, it takes 4 years - not 3 - to play every team in the league.

Re: 2012 Redskins Schedule Released Today
Before the season, I was dreading the stretch of schedule we're entering now.
After the Vikings game, it was supposed to be a daunting task. Suddenly, it looks, well, "not so bad". I'm not saying it will be easy but these teams that were supposed to be contenders are looking very vulnerable and are really struggling. We might just have an amazing run coming up: Giants - we can do this! Steelers - suddenly a .500 team that looks like they are aging and their run is over Panthers - horrible. Eagles - Vick has become a turnover machine and they can't win games they should win. Cowboys - seem to be choking earlier than usual. Dez is starting to cause issues. Giants - above Ravens - solid but a few huge injuries this week. Browns - playing everyone tough but this is still a 1-win team. Eagles - above Cowboys - above I can see us finishing above .500. Say we split the division games, I can see us winning more than half of the Browns, Panthers, Ravens and Steelers games. I could see us winning all but that Ravens game maybe. 9-7 is looking very possible. We could be contending for a wild card but I'm not sure we can do that...the NFC has so many good teams this year.
