Unfortunately Matty, I am capped out where I am. Can't get more pay without a higher grade, can't get a higher grade unless I get into management in another division. Besides, I already do a lot of the crappy work of management in my current position (personnel, procurement, manage multiple dockets, oversee junior attorneys) but am not even (after 20 years) graded as a senior attorney b/c my division has no slots for it. Got to move out to move up which sucks b/c I otherwise generally like my job.
I hear ya, I'm in a similar spot in my job. Moved up a few years ago, hated and moved back down. Now I'm just riding things out until something better comes along.

Just what any other manager does ... make sure the work is done timely & well while handling gripes and complaints from employees.

Re: What REALLY grinds your gears?

Cable companies and the new FXX channel grinds my gears. I would count Archer, The League, Always Sunny, and Wilfred as four of my favorite shows. All of them are moving to FXX, which was announced months and months ago. It started September 2nd. Since Fox rebranded FOX SOCCER to FXX it's in the sports tier (outside the NFL N/ESPNs) and I really don't want to buy 34000 soccer channels. Cable provider had months to move it to a new tier, yet I'm missing my favorite shows because they couldn't get it done in time... they wonder why piracy is so prevelant.

Re: What REALLY grinds your gears?

Angry bosses when you leave a job.

This was my bosses email after I put in my resignation letter to the whole office:

Jeanne and MAtt leaving
• Please join me in wishing both Jeanne and Matt the very best and our profound thanks for their efforts during their tenure at X. We appreciate all of their hard work and assistance on the multiple tasks and special assignments they have supported. Ironic that we have more potential of upcoming tasking in the next couple of weeks that at any time in the last couple of years. Timing is everything. I sincerely wish Jeanne and Matt well in your new endeavors. Stay in touch. You will be missed.

They have not won a contract in years and keep giving me layoff notices but luck out and get extensions every other month. Not to mention I am getting a 20% bump at my new job. Unreal.

Backing a trailer just takes a littl practices. I know we're just talking about practice but that's what it takes. Your over compensating (I'm sure you have heard that before) when backing the trailer because the trailer takes a second to respond so people turn the wheel too much. Take it easy and gradually turn the wheel as needed. If can teach my wife to back a trailer down a boat ramp you can also learn.

After informing a boss that I was resigning she proceeded to tell me how much I will be missed, how I couldn't be replaced, etc. but that, fortunately, "we just advertised for another position, I am sure we can find someone qualified to do your job in the stack of applicants."

Same woman who announced to the office she was leaving and that they were putting together a "blue ribbon search committee" in order to scour the nation to find someone who could replace her ... and then turned to her Deputy Counsel and said "Oh, XXXX, I hear you're applying too! Good luck!!". [He ended up getting the job].

Worst. Boss. Ever.

Sounds like you are well rid of the place mredskins. Good Luck!

Re: What REALLY grinds your gears?

I'm a girl and I own a Landscaping business. I've had new guys who have worked for me and felt I shouldn't be "in charge" because I'm a woman and I don't know what I'm doing, not knowing I'm the actual owner and I could run (or in this case mow) circles around them
