That is f-ed up... 36 million dollars of salary cap space for front-loaded deals during uncapped year.

The nfl is just making rules up as they go along.

I don't think I am being a blatant homer when I think this is serious BS. I can't even comprehend how the league could possibly do this. No actual rules were broken and isn't telling teams things like they league supposedly did ripe for a collusion charge?

that's a lot of money... I'd load up on sub 3mill/year guys and take as much off the books as possible. I'd still try to trade out carr for hall though.

Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status

J.I. Halsell in 2010:

Quote:
As I’ve previously written, given the uncertainty of what 2011 holds, clubs who take advantage of the uncapped year by incurring high team salaries in 2010 run the risk of possibly being penalized in 2011 as part of a new salary cap and CBA. Clearly, this is a risk the Redskins are willing to take -- or perhaps they know something the rest of us don’t.

It wasn't part of the CBA...plain and simple. The league strong-armed the NFLPA into agreeing to this. They extorted them essentially. The facts are this.

The Skins and other teams took advantage both legally and in the spirit of a CBA tool meant to punish one or both sides for allowing the uncapped year to happen.
Many owners colluded to strip said tool of the power it held from a labor standpoint.
The league allowed the contracts in spite of the fact that there was an agreement not do allow such behavior.

It cannot be stated more clearly...the league is punishing two teams, entirely without regard for the other teams in the league that acted similarly, for not engaging in an illegal labor negotiating ploy.

The argument that what they did created competitive imbalance, while on it's face pretty dubious, is completely irrelevant. THAT WAS WHAT THE UNCAPPED YEAR WAS INTENDED TO DO.

Anyone care to explain where JLC is getting these numbers? I wonder if he meant these are the cap numbers with the cap penalties.

Ya not sure where he gets these. You are probably right, these numbers likely include an $18M cap charge in 2012.

I was just thinking of something with this $18 million crap. Isn't it really $19.6 million because of the extra $1.6 million or whatever it was that every other team got that we didn't get. That extra $1.6 million is already added in to the $120 million cap number.

I don't think that includes the $13M in space that the Skins got to carry over from last year.

You're right about everything you said, but in the end, the league can pretty much do whatever they want. It's not fair, but it is what it is.
