We're going with Edwards or Williams if they're on the board. Gamechanging receivers. Gibbs says McCants is still there, but I think it's a ploy so people don't think we go receiver. There's a reason McCants didn't play last year. As Gmanc said we don't have a #1 receiver. I don't see Moss as a #1, and Jacobs is too unproven. Patten still has a lot to show too. We need a bigtime receiver, and though they can be busts, they can also pay huge dividends. Lets give Ramsey someone young he can grow with so one day the Williams/Jacobs package is envied by all!

He means Mike Williams.

Here's a "dose of reality" for you, Bosshog. Our receivers are unproven and need to be worked on. For all we know Moss may walk after this year, Patten has only ever been a #4 in a good offense, Jacobs hasn't seen the field, we've seen what thrash does as a starter, and McCants until I [b]see{/b] otherwise is still in Gibbs doghouse. If we have a chance to get Edwards or Williams - take it. No need to draft a #2 we have four of those. CB isn't a huge concern, though it should be addressed in the near future. We have lots of young guys with talent that our coaching staff wants to look at.

Tell that to coach. This isn't of my design. You know how Gibbs covets the veteran. Yes we laid an egg with the contract of Brunell but fared much better with Portis. My question to you is what has Mike Williams proven other than his slow ass 40 times? This is Gibbs way. Not mine.

You're kidding right? He's proven as much, if not more, than any incoming draftee coming out of college. Take a look at his stats against major competition. Talk to any of the scouts that saw him at the combine or at his private workout. Talk to David Greene. If you say he hasn't proven anything in the NFL yet, I'm sure Erasmus James or Marlin Jackson has?

Let's remember, Jerry Rice didn't have all world speed either- not saying BMW will have a career that stands even close to Jerry, but the comparisons of hands is already there.

Moss WAS the Jets #1 WR a year ago, but he was set to become the Jets #3. I hardly think that establishes him as a "proven" wideout. He had ONE, count em', ONE good year (Gardner also had a 70+ catch, 1,000+ yard season). He had fewer catches last season than Rod Gardner...who few think is proven.

Patten was argably anywhere from the #2 to the #4 wideout for the Pats. David Givens appeared in 1 less game than Patten and had 12 more catches. Moreover, the Pats spread the ball around so much because they relied on depth more than stars. Finally, in EIGHT seasons, Patten has yet to crack the 900 yard mark in a season, let alone the 1,000 yard mark. He'd had ONE season of 60+ catches. So, I'm not sure how he can be considered a "proven" starting-caliber wideout.

Thrash....proven? Okay, we just disagree on that one.

McCants....proven? Proven what? That he can be inactive for 11 games last season on a wide recieving corps ridiculed by many posters on this site and implicitly by Gibbs.

Some of these guys have a lot of promise (Moss, Jacobs, McCants), but it's a HUGE stretch to say they're "proven" guys.

Between our ENTIRE recieving corps, I count ONE, UNO, a SINGLE 1,000 yard season. Other than Thrash, the only guy who has even been considered a possible true #1 wideout is Moss (who, as noted has only 1 1,000 yard season under his belt). How is that proven?

Anyone we draft is also unproven.....

Don't forget...we've gotten screwed in the past for getting the "Cream of the crop" WR from the draft:

Desomond Howard, Michael Westbrook

Riggo44:

If Courtney Brown were available AND IF I had any reason to hope that Courtney Brown could stay healthy, I'd consider him a good guy to sign.

However, other than the fact that Courtney Brown and Lavar Arrington played on the same team at Penn State, I think it is a stretch to call Brown, "LaVar's buddy". It would not surprise me to learn that they had not spoken more than a half dozen times since leaving PSU.

Courtney Brown's problem from about the 10th game of his NFL career to today has been "the injury bug". I suspect his potential will never be "achieved" because of those injuries; and so even if he's a free agent, I'd spend only a VERY modest sum to get him here.

Re: Let's face it. Our WRs are set...

You mean the savy running back who had been in the year for a massive two years? That's not exactly what I consider a veteran. Our WRs are good enough that we can bench a rookie, but not so good we have time to develop one next year. Get him now, start him working. We're fine everywhere else.

Give Daniels a chance! He has one season where he has injury problems. I have a feeling there's a reason everyone says wait till he comes back!

I imagine we'll give up our first round pick for Doug Flutie, or some other equally bone-headed move.

Mike Williams would be perfect. A big play guy, a HUGE end zone target. But, if history is any indication, we'll mess things up royally.

Receiver David Boston, who was cut by the Dolphins earlier this week after failing a physical, has drawn interest from the 49ers and could sign a minimum-salary contract once his surgically repaired knee is healthy.
-- Miami Herald

if boston will play on a minimum salary contract we should get him
