Re: Mike Williams and Troy Williamson

Ivne - You make good points, but I should have expanded a bit. I think that the 5 yard rule will both help and hurt Mike Williams. Because of his tendency to push off to create all that seperation he gets, he could get a lot of offensive pass interference calls against him. He was a big name playing at a big school. He got every call in the world (just like the Lakers did a few years ago.) In the NFL the corners will be able to play him more physical and won't be completely dominated like many of the college corners he faced.

I think he'll be good -- but I don't see a big first year. Out of all the receivers this year, he's the best one in my eyes. Edwards is a very close 2nd. However, had he gotten into the draft last year he woulda fallen below fitz/Williams. That's just my feeling. He'd be a GREAT red zone target (assuming we get the balls to throw on the opponents side of the field) and he has amazing hands. I think he could be a great player, don't get me wrong. Just saying I can see him having a bit of trouble adjusting. However, very few people can get used to how the NFL works in the first year especially at the WR position.

I don't know though... how often do you really see OFFENSIVE pass interference called? I would like to get SOME kind of call, maybe take advantage of the illegal contact rule. It seems like 3 out of 4 times the defensive guy will get called for it.

Malcolm - I believe our team saw more Off. pass INT than we got calls for PI during the season. =p

Seriously? I could have sworn I didn't see any O Pass INT. I DO definitely know we hardly got ANY PI calls.

Hopefully that's what Portis will be for too.

I'd rather have more than one passing option in the end zone. McCants could be it. Fade to the back corner!

I really would love to see McCants get some more looks in the upcoming season because it doesn't appear like they are trying to shop him anywhere.

Or McCants could be simply cut, that's probably the likely scenario.

I saw Williams run a 4.56 last night. He is a big dude, and he has incredible hands. But I dont think He will slide to 9. I think Minnesota is going to nab him right before us.

Thats why I think that we trade down and pick up Clayton and then hopefully we can pick up another 1st round pick or an early 2nd round pick and pick up a pass rushing DE or DT. Cause I honestly dont think that Williams or Edwards will be around at #9.
