couldnt agree more about mack but thats too high at 13. but i have been saying that guys is the best olineman in this years draft since they played maryland in september.

Re: 2009 Offensive/Defensive Lineman

If we could get Eugene Monroe OT out of Virginia in the first and have Alex Mack center-guard a projected 2nd to 3rd rounder fall to us in the 3rd, I would be happy with our draft. There are a few defensive guys I would like to get on our defense but I think we can win next year with the D we have. Being a defensive type of guy, I would love a Michael Johnson or a big defensive tackle, but protecting JC is a priority if we're going to get the offense where we want it to be. Maybe hit the defensive side of the ball in free agency.

That's logical thinking. I could deal with that.

I'm fine with this approach as long as we don't reach for any of the O-linemen when our selection is up. Trading down to get more picks AND still getting the linemen that we're targeting would be a beautiful thing.

Re: 2009 Offensive/Defensive Lineman

If the Redskins trade down the next available OL to draft on offense are either Cirion Black or Duke Robinson or possibly Tyson Jackson on the DL. If they don't trade down it sure looks like Eugene Monroe is a no brainer. But that might mean Vinny won't do it.

Re: 2009 Offensive/Defensive Lineman

I like maleluga or laurenitis for the first pick. I also like Duke Robinson. I'm not to happy with the mercenaries we're picked up over the years. I do like London Fletcher and Portis though. These worked out well for us. I would've liked to have gotten that kid Mason too. If we did pick up someone on the O or D lines then they had better be younger, cheaper, and not signed for too long to keep them hungry.
I also like Phil Loadholt. We need to get bigger and younger on both lines. I think we will cut or move around the lines, the O more than the D. I saw the O-line get better at pass protection this year. I just think JC isn't that great, yet.... He has improved. I wouldn't worry about the penalties that much with younger guys on the line because the old guys are committing them too.
What I really want to see is how many of these guys who are undrafted try out and who makes it. I think that we have some real potenial at getting a diamond in the rough for costume jewelry money.

Re: 2009 Offensive/Defensive Lineman

I really want Duke Robinson (G -- Oklahoma) and Alex Mack (C -- California). If we could trade down and pick up a 2nd, we might be able to get both of them.

In the third, Phil Loadholt (T -- Oklahoma) could play right tackle.

I wouldn't mind seeing three OL picks this year. I know we need help on the d-line, but this draft is stronger in O-Line prospects. This woud be the draft to have three 2nd round picks.

That would be a draft I could feel very good about. If it were to happen, I would say Vinny has more than proved himself!

I'd be happy to let him get the credit if he'd just listen to me.

I agree with this logic.

I really think we only need to add one starter on the O-line this year. I think we should draft a player who can come in and start at RT for us right away. Samuels is still a very good LT, Kendall is still solid at LG, Rabach is serviceable, Thomas is solid at RG, RT is where we need the starter. Heyer and Jansen would be solid depth at the tackle positions, and don't forget Rinehart and Devin Clark who are both young and promising.

Watching the Fiesta Bowl, Boone is looking a little slow. I can see why some draft sites have him as far down as the fifth round.

We need to keep this in mind when the combine rolls around. Keep in mind who was a football player in the Fall, not a combine guy in February.

Cedric Dockery

Anyone realize that Derrick's little brother is eligible for the draft this year? For now he grades out as a fourth to fifth round prospect according to Scouts Inc.

Cedric Dockery | OG

Scouts Grade: 58
2009 NCF STATS

Height:6'3"
Weight:320
College:TEXAS
Flag:N/A
Overall Rank:146
Position Rank:7

1 = Exceptional 2 = Above Average 3 = Average 4 = Below average 5 = Marginal

Production: 2
Dockery redshirted in 2004 and played primarily as a reserve in 2005. He started (right guard) the first six games of his sophomore season in 2006 before suffering a season-ending knee injury versus Oklahoma. He returned healthy for his junior season in 2007, playing in all 13 games (11 starts) at right guard.

Height-Weight-Speed: 3
Adequate-to-good height and thickly built. Well proportioned with a wide base. Does not run very well, though even for his size.

Durability: 3
Knee injury in 2006 is a concern. He does not seem to possess good flexibility or stamina, either. But remained healthy for the entire 2007 season.

Character: 2
Has worked hard to improve from early in his career. Older brother, Derrick, is a former Longhorn standout and current starter at guard for the Buffalo Bills.

Strength/Toughness: 3
Plays with excellent leverage. Can stay low and absorb the bull rush. Also displays adequate-to good initial power. However, he does not drive through his blocks with the type of lower-body strength expected of a guard with his thick build. Would like to see him play with more of a mean streak. He rarely pancakes a defender in four games we studied from 2007 season

Agility: 3
Shows adequate quickness when setting in pass pro but does not fire out as quickly as a run blocker. The more space he's in the less effective he becomes both in pass pro and as a run blocker

Awareness: 3
Needs work in this regard. Does not seem sure of his assignments at time and will get caught out of position, as a result.

Pass Protection: 3
Is a natural knee bender and displays adequate quickness in his pass pro set. Has long arms for a guard. Plays with a wide base and can anchor versus most bull rusher. However, his range is severely limited by his poor lateral quickness. He struggles to mirror-and-slide in any kind of space. Will get caught off-balance and/or lunging if forced to set, slide his feet, and then reset. Also needs to show better awareness versus the blitz, as well as stunts and twists.

Run Blocking: 3
He's much more effective working head up versus a 4-3 DT than he is uncovered. Rarely overwhelms defenders at the point of attack but he does win most battles once in good position. Displays adequate initial pop. Remains under control in space. Lacks ideal initial quickness when coming forward out of his stance and, as a result, he will be late to get into position on too many pulls, traps and second-level blocks. Also gets into some trouble by putting his head down prior to contact.

Re: 2009 Offensive/Defensive Lineman

I just saw a U-tuber with Everret Brown high lights from another thread and I urge everyone to check him out. I'm still sticking to my picks but if we did pick up E.Brown then I'd still say we had a good draft. I doubt he'll be there by the time # 13 comes around but if he is we've got to seriously consider him for our pick.
