Re: Car Insurance Help
I only ever had state farm, I am sure that each insurance company has its own horror stories. So far state farm has treated me fair. Look at consumer reports, they usually have a pretty good feel on things like this... By the way, I have both my house and car with state farm...

Re: Car Insurance Help
At 19 you're going to pay a hefty premium no matter who you go with. Do the rounds online and get quotes.

Re: Car Insurance Help
I do know that they have a multi-car discount but I am sure that other insurance carriers offer something similar...

Re: Car Insurance Help
You need to get insurance on your car as quick as you can because most ins. co. give discounts for having prior ins. Some consider prior ins. as having current coverage and some will use prior ins. within 30 days. If you wait it can really drive up the cost for coverage. With that said you need to call around and get quotes from several ins. co's to see which has the best price. At your age its not going to be cheap and could varyy 100's of dollars from one company to the next.

Re: Car Insurance Help
Going along with what firstdown mentioned, call your sister's insurance company first and get a quote from them. Since you've been on her policy, they should be able to use that time and continue it on with you.
I have State Farm as well (2 autos, homeowner's and personal property (wife's engagement ring)), and have never had any problems. And when I broke off my Dad's policy for my own, the time I spent on his policy carried over onto mine. But definitely shop around...because of your age, quotes will widely vary.

Re: Car Insurance Help
Check out Progressive and see if they can do anything for you. They also will show you some quotes from other companies in comparison.

Re: Car Insurance Help
USAA is the best if you are eligible (military, or parents in the military and/or parents were members). As others stated, though, you will get nailed for being 19 and for being a male. That won't change until you turn 25.

Re: Car Insurance Help
Those quotes from other companies are about as accurate as Mark Brunell with a broken leg. Think about what they are saying. They will tell you if the competition is cheaper. Thast like going to buy a car and the sales man saying that you could go down the street and find it cheaper.

Re: Car Insurance Help
Allstate.
They're the cheapest from the quotes I got and have great reward programs and discounts, but from my experiences of people and deer hitting me, as well as a theft/vandalism in the ghetto of my car...they are the BEST when it comes to both customer service and fighting for you when the other person's insurance company won't pay up or admit fault. They once took legal action against the other person's company that wouldn't pay up after someone borrowed their customer's car and hit my wife when crossing over the middle of the road. Allstate paid me directly minus the deductible so we could get the car fixed, then took 6 months to go after the other company with a hearing in front of an arbitor that sided for us and forced the other company (Erie Insurance, WORST ever) to pay our deductible back. Allstate kept us updated weekly on their progress and never gave up. Another time, some Hispanic lowlife bashed my car window in and stole the stereo along with all of the controls for heating and AC (during 100 degree weather in August). Allstate had a guy come to my house and fix the window in my driveway THE NEXT DAY, let me order a new (much better) stereo from Crutchfield and also had a Ford dealer replace all of the HVAC stuff. It was done quickly and didn't cost me a thing, in fact I came out better off since the stereo stolen was 4 years old and they paid me TWICE what I paid for it to shop for a new one. You can't put a price on service like this, but...for me, their price is cheaper anyways. I even checked with Geiko and they would've been several hundred dollars more. I'm married and over 25, but I pay $450 a YEAR for two cars to Allstate. Can't beat that. (one of the cars is even red!) |

Re: Car Insurance Help
I should also mention State Farm completely screwed me over when one of their customers hit me head-on. What they gave me for my car was a joke.
I've always had Allstate and always will. They've always been GREAT to my whole family. It's the otther companies that have screwed me (or tried) when they have to pay for their idiot customers' mistakes. Whatever you do, DON'T GO WITH ERIE INSURANCE. Seriously, they're the worst ever. I know other people who have had to go through legal battles to get paid when they're clearly the victim. |
