Caps lock in there star forward to what should be a life time contract. Great move to get this kid locked in on the final year of his rookie contract.

ESPN - Ovechkin, Capitals agree to 13-year, $124 million contract extension - NHL

Yes this is a great move by the Caps and Im so glad to have someone like Ovy locked in for a long time. The kids insane and one of the best players playing now. Excellent move!

Nice move. I was just reading (I think maybe on ESPN.com) yesterday some possible trades the Caps might make with AO if they didn't keep him. Really glad they kept him.

Whoa, what a monster deal.

I'm glad the Caps are committing to winning a cup. If only I was committed to watching the Caps.

That story is really flying under the radar. Arenas is now saying he might not come back this year. If you're Grunfeld what do you do? Do you re-sign Arenas knowing what he means to the franchise and city? But at the same time, you're giving the max to a player with a bad knee.

Sorry to hijack.

Nice move by the Capitals to show (hopefully) that they're past their frugal era and ready to compete with the big boys.

I would re-sign him to a short-term deal and maybe look to trade him later.

No way I get rid of Arenas without getting something in return.

Not so sure about the Arenas re-sign, IMO I think the wizards need to move on. I thought there was even talk of him wanting out?

On to the CAPS, great move to lock in this stud. He will be the anchor of this team, since axing Hamlon they are moving in the right direction. I think Teddy boy knows if you want to compete with the big boys ya gotta spend the cash.

Ovie deserves it, and at 22, he's one of the top players in the NHL. He's got a passer who can get him the puck in Backstrom, so it's a matter of time before he blows up.

My biggest concern for the Capitals is goaltending. Olie is pushing 40, and Brent Johnson is a shadow of his early years with the Blues. Frederic Cassivi (Hershey's top goaltender) is 32 and still can't push Johnson out of the #2 spot.

That would explain why he is selling his $1.5 million house. Moving on up!
