NHL Playoffs

I know theres not a ton of hockey fans on the board, but anyone been watching the playoffs so far....that Dallas/Vancouver game the other night was insane...my Rangers squeeked one out last night....

Really there is nothing like playoff hockey? Anyone been watching? Thoughts?

Re: NHL Playoffs

Playoff hockey, as demonstrated by the Canucks-Stars game, is awesome. Especially the first round. If nothing else, people should watch just to see Sidney Crosby

Not much of a joke admittedly. I have always hated hockey and want it banished back to wherever it came from. 9 people care about it in this country and it gets the most coverage of any "major" sport proportional to its popularity. That annoys me. We have way more people in this country who care about soccer but it doesn't get near the attention.

I am going to the Ducks Wild game in a few Hours. Playoff Hockey is the shit. The season it self like the NBA goes on way to long. But wants the playoffs start it’s a great sport to watch. I’m getting pretty geeked up about the Ducks this could be the year. Quack quack!:cheeky-sm

It could just be what you're exposed too as well and the atmopshere. I know its nuts around here right now with the Sabres (even though I hate them and like the Rangers), but being so much closer to Canada could make a difference too. I think as you get up towards the northern states you see some more fan-fare.

Re: NHL Playoffs

I tried to get into hockey at one point. My uncle is a huge hockey buff.

There just really isn't anyone talking about it around here

What I really want is for lacrosse to take over boring ass baseball. (cringing in preparation for crazy baseball fans)

Re: NHL Playoffs

When I first got to ESPN, I tried to make a big push for Lacrosse. But there just isn't enough interest beyond the college level. We're still trying to come up with a good plan for it though. All hope is not lost

It's not big enough on the national level yet. If you go anywhere on the east coast and a lot of places in Texas, you'll find lacrosse is fairly mainstream. Maryland and New York are obviously the huge lacrosse states, but by no means hold the dominance they used to have. Lacrosse has bridged out (when I was a freshman, it was only in it's third year as a program at my school in Frederick) and only has room to grow.

It's a great sport, very similar to basketball in the footwork and things of that nature.

I'm a rabid fan... and I had the opportunity to play against some really good teams (My one year at CUA I got to play against Salisbury, which was like a dream come true).. and I think the sport will emerge as a real contender to baseball in the next 10-15 years. America really just doesn't understand it yet, and by no means is ready for any kind of national exposure IMO.

In due time... In due time.
