Re: Collinsworth on Redskins QB situation

we should have snyder hire a high priced sergean to take brunell's brain and insert it into campbell's head, then we would have the qb we are dreaming of.

Time to find out if that's the case and remember Collinsworth hates the Redskins and himself because deep down he knows that he is in love with Bob Costas.

I dunno, I think it may be credible. First, most scouts said it would take Campbell 2 years to develop into a starter. Second, most of the comments I've heard about Campbell from other Redskins (save Randy Thomas) have been less than glowing. They haven't said anything bad, but they're not saying how he's going to be "great." Rabach said Campbell looks "decent." Every comment about Campbell seems to be, "he's a great athlete, it's just a question of whether he can handle to mental aspect of the game."

Nevertheless, I could care less what others think. I'll wait until I see him on the field.

That's pretty much my take as well SGG. He's going to start the game for us on Sunday and we'll all be watching to draw our own conclusions. He'll have to prove to us through his play what they say about him is either right or wrong.

Regardless, he was just passing along what someone told him.

Re: Collinsworth on Redskins QB situation

I have some sources that say that Collinsworth like to say provocative, negative, critical things for fun.

Few people are going to be praising Jason Campbell to the skies right now. He is replacing one of the people with the most integrity and dignity in sports, Mark Brunell. No one on the team is going to dance a jig on Brunell's back while he is down.

The reasons we drafted Jason are very sound. It was an excellent, bold move to draft a franchise quarterback when we had the opportunity. Campbell will have the rest of the season to learn from, and hopefully in general fans will be very supportive so he can just focus on getting himself adjusted to his new role.

He has all the tools and he has the humility and winning spirit which are very important. I think Campbell will have a great career, will win at least one Super Bowl, and be one of the great Redskins.

Re: Collinsworth on Redskins QB situation

That was one stupid remark by Collinsworth among many! How can anyone know if Jason Campbell can play or not?

It's perfect to use the mystery source for Collinsworth, because if he turns out dead wrong he can fall back on the " I was just going on what I was told" excuse for his misguided remark.

Re: Collinsworth on Redskins QB situation

Going back to Brunell at this point makes no sense at all. Especially once the team is officially eliminated.

Re: Collinsworth on Redskins QB situation

I checked my crackpot sources. And this is not something new. I didn't hear the show, I'll listen to the archived version later, but he apparently didn't specify enough on air.

But anyway, someone (don't know who) told Collinsworth back in the preseason that they needed the Brunell from early 2005 because Campbell wasn't ready yet. And there had never really been any intention to go with Collins long term except for in an absolute emergency. Anyhow, long story short-it's not new.

I had a feeling that this was something he was told back in camp or something. Just didn't make much sense that someone in the organization would say that right now.

Re: Collinsworth on Redskins QB situation

I doubt Collingsworth is lying or confused about what he was told if in fact that is what he said? But Gibbs has been delusional towards Brunell, which just goes to show how out of touch he really is with his ability to evaluate talent that is playing every sunday right in front of his face, the possibility exsists that Campbell may be a complete bust, I really can't imagine him being worse than Brunell? But if so what does that say about gibbs ability to identify talent? You would think the one area that he would be on the money is the QB position? Regardless if Campbell can play or not this is addition by subtraction, we already know we can't win with Brunell, and this last half of the season will go far in telling where we stand QB wise for the future, it would be nice to see Campbell excel but I wouldn't get my hopes to high.
